hey guys please explain me step by step how to change video resoultion using “mkvmerge GUI”
i tried lot of times changes values in width and height box but output video resolution will remain as inputs

MKVMerge GUI cannot change the resolution of your video! It can embed preferred resolution into the video's MKV container, but that property merely hints to your media player that it should scale the video. Not only do some media players ignore said property, but it doesn't actually modify the video. You will need a utility such as Handbrake or Arista which can re-encode your video.

Answer #2
try the crop box
that will remove black bars on playback – re:your other topic about removing black bars top+bottom
if you watch it on a TV…….you will get black bars unless you buy a new TV with the correct aspect ratio. or buy a really stupid media player that ignores the aspect ratio – manufactured by idiots!
you cannot change the resolution without reencoding which will change the aspect ratio which is something that you should not do! you can stretch the video horizontally but it still has the same resolution even though it appears to be larger. it makes it anamorphic
go and read about display & movie aspect ratios and why they are important
Answer #3
You can’t! (at least i dont think so)
You would need another encoder, like Handbrake/Vidcoder mkvmerge can only edit, separate, or merge components of a file that are already there (like subtitles, audio tracks…)

as also explained, it is impossible to increase resolution of anything while keeping the same quality. resolution means number of pixels a 1920*1080 resolution have 2073600 pixels when you multiply those numbers , so even if you set its resolution to 4k through some tool , it will still have its original 2073600 pixels the only thing will happen will be loss of quality since 4K resolution needs the pixel of 8294400 to give its best quality. then you will have 2073600 pixels which needs to fit in a resolution requires 8294400 pixels. also if aspect ratio is not exactly 16:9 , like you have something 1920*800 which is also industry standard for many videos , you will have black bars , if you try to make it full screen , you will experience loss of original dimensional view , like longer or more fat people than the original movie since it is stretched to the full screen, in addition to the pixel problem i mentioned above.
i explained in detail so you understand why it is impossible to do what you ask , without compromising something or , it is re-rendered from its original source. if the source is also not 16:9 , then there is no way that you can make it full screen without sacrificing quality of what you see. dont make black bars problem and watch with them , we all do like that , it is industry standard. only imax movies are exactly fits to the full screen as far as i know.
to make something exactly 16:9 without sacrificing quality , it must be shot at 16:9 , no other way can change aspect ratio without losing the quality.
