Hard drive space

Hello friends,
Recently,I had to shutdown the power of my computer because it hung and didnt respond.When I again restarted,the disk checkup thing went on and some lost cluster,temp file stuff went on and it finished showing cross linking finished.Then suddenly I had more than 2GB space but it came down to 200MB.I tried to delete some files and it reached 700MB.
I want to know how come so much space went suddenly?Is it because that disk check stored some files which I didnt know where and its taking the space?Is there any software which can locate and delete these temporary files?Because of this problem,whenever I am downloading something to D drive(3GB free space),even if it has space,the low disk space for C comes and the downloaded files doesnt download compeletely.
Please help.

Try disk cleanup.. Should work.. Disable hibernate option.. It will free up considerably

Use ( TuneUp Utilities )
And make sure you don’t have any virus

Thanks friends.I will try these options.I am using tune up utilitites(2006) and once it did help me clear up 7GB space.Hope it works this time.Thanks alot again.

Woah Maaann :p Get the latest version perhaps, unless you gonna swear by it Also you can try using CCleaner as an simpler Alternative, Look like you got lot of Temp files

Yeah,I got this temporaray internet files floder in this directory- C:\Documents and Settings\dash\Local Settings which size is 4.2GB but no matter what i delete from it,the size remains the same and it says some files are there too although I empited the folder.

Go to that folder and see whats inside, if you dont see anything enable viewing hidden and system files and then try delete them, If some files wont get deleted then use Unlocker and then try n delete them If that doesnt work boot in Safe Mode and try again

Thanks a lot for the advices you all gave and dear ,I also did that enable thing but the problem persisted. The news update is – CCcleaner did the trick and took out all the files.Now my C drive shows 6GB of space instead of 500mb.
