graphics card for a bit old system

February 7th, 2020

Hi, actually i hav a bit old syystem, so i hav to get a graphics card for that till i get a new rig.
Firstly here are the specs:-
Intel P4 524 prescott 3.06 GHz
D101GGC
1 GB RAM (512mb x 2) @ 200 MHz
450w Power Supply
actually i thought of getting a GTX 260/216c edition and use it as a dedicated PhysX core in the new rig afterwards,
but then i thought (Actually i know) that my currunt specification will bottleneck the card a lot.
So, my question is what card i can get for Directx 10/SM4 as a cheap solution so that i can save for fermi and phenom II
and ps considering 1gb cards of Nvidia

Answer #1
for once, the GTX 2XX range needs atleast 500W to ru tself, letalone the rest of the rig .
and tbh, there not much high power stuff avalible unless u do a little bit more upgradeing

thats what i mean by bottlenecking,
and btw i’d hav upgraded the psu if only that creates the problem
Answer #3
it wont bottle neck it, it just wont boot
and after the PSU, u will then need about 2 gig of ram, plenty of CPU processing power and a big old glug of cooling
teheh, edned up upgradeing my entire rig for need GFX card, just so happens to be a GTX 260 aswell

ok ok, i know 260 is a bad idea for now.
any other card to consider? (obviously thats the reason i opened thread for)
Answer #5
get a Nvidia 8800GT

Answer #6
thanx buddy, that looks good,
and btw i’ll be at 1024 x 768
so, i think 512 mb will be enough
not talking about games like gta4, crysis etc (gta4 may not even run on my system even with 2gb card )
but how about avatar , spiderman 3 etc?
Answer #7
GTA IV runs fine with the 8800GT in fact it can run all latest games. Maybe not at full with AA and stuff but it can run them at medium settings.

I have a 8800GT, and it’s a really nice card. I’m running CoD4 with 200FPS, full settings. Dragon Age full settings, I get about 40-50 FPS. I’m at a 1440 x 900 screen.
Answer #9
Go for a 9600gt. I have a P4 3.00ghz 2gb ram and thats what i chose.
Answer #10
well 8800GT has more texture units, shader processors, flops etc than 9600GT (but i can only rely on availability in my region).
and that GTA4 vid is of dual core setup.
Anyways, Thanx to all
Answer #11
Well i finalized 3 cards:-
Nvidia 9800 GT
Nvidia 9800 GTX
Nvidia 9800 GTX+
Depends on availability at my location
thanx to all for the help
Answer #12
my bad, 9800’s are discontinued in my location.
hav to go for rebranded 9800 GTX+ (i.e. GTS 250)
