Fraps and Video problem.

December 26th, 2013

Hey, Today I tried FRAPS and captured 3minutes in-game video [1920×1080].
The problem is:
For 3 minutes video it took 3.15GB +
What this??
How do I make it to 10-50MB video file and upload to Youtube or share.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you.

What you will want to do is encode it.
I use a program called MEGUI. Its a free program and pretty easy to use. Especially since there are tons of Youtube tutorials on how to do it.

You can get the files needed from his description. Any other questions just ask. I’ve done hundreds of HD encodes with this program. It works great.

Just use XSplit. If you plan on doing post editing to your video, you need to use FRAPS. If not, use XSplit.

FRAPS is lossless. If you plan on doing post editing and uploading to gaytub, its probably the best way to go. But you will get huge file sizes so re-encoding is a must and can only record your screen, then must upload afterwards.
XSplit is a complete recording and broadcasting solution. You will be able to record any part, of any screen, and arrange it any way you like. The video is compressed as it records so there is no need for re-encoding after your done. Furthermore, if your upload bandwidth is sufficient, you can record directly to a streaming/hosting site that will not only allow people to watch you live, if you choose, but host your file for you as well; eliminating the need for re-encoding and uploading. The second your done recording, your video is already encoded, uploaded and ready to be shared.
If you do post editing, this is not an option.

you should stick with fraps to edit the “boring/slow” parts out and then reencode it… or drop the quality
and now before pressing submit i stop and read the other comment and realize im offering nothing here…ah well

If u wan a optimized size use ZDsoft..
Wch has more options than fraps..
N file size’ll be less.. n user friendly..
U cant get a low size video in Fraps..
as it gives the raw footage without encoding/decoding..

@Boondockz: Thank, I’ll give it a try.
@SmAsHeDr: I’ll check it.
Rest, Thank you.

Ha ha I remember, I had this exact problem many years ago in the Halo CE days. 1 minute video turned out to be hundreds of MB’s. I was confused, never bothered with it in the end anyhow.

Try MSi Afterburner 2.2.0 Beta 8. With Mpeg compression, 100% quality & half frame at 30fps is hitting aprox. 100mb per minute, and the quality is good for casual youtube uploading
PS: Also configuring fraps the right way may give you similar results (untick loseless RBG capture for smaller file size and set the other options similar to what i’ve mentioned before)

100mb / per minute is big

I use
BSR Screen Recorder 5
Found it here is APPS.
Recorded 20mins of gaming and was 500MB. (then used Total Video Converter to change to mkv or what ever. )

Give Handbrake a try. It’s free, gives good results and is fairly simple to use
Another thing you could try in order to achieve smaller file sizes> FRAPS has the option to record at Half-size. This will decrease the output file size but also decrease the frame size of the video

Well you still want to ave some quality screen?
1. There is no need to make an 10 Min in-Game Video, you can skip something and cut it.
2. You don t play that good
However, you can use MKV to convert it small size, or use Sony Vegas to change it to wmv and i am sure you will get a smaller size (not like mkv). Fraps captures the screen with an uncompressed vid encoder.
4 or 5. Youtube will convert the vid anyway to mp4 1280×720 on the End.

A thousand times this, I always use MeGUI for my fraps vides and they turn out HQ at incredibly low sizes
