FOUND IT! name of graphic novel/comic.

January 26th, 2020

It’s on the tip of my brain but I can’t wiggle it out.
OK..
• Multi volume story. Each volume perhaps 20-25cm x 10cm x 3 cm thick, perhaps 120 pages?
• Not in colour – black/white line drawing with some cross hatch shading (not grey scale shading in the rubbed style).
• Story has a girl in a large waterproof underwater + warrior suit, like a knight but bulbous and big.
• She has some sort of “magical” abilities, I think.
• She visits castles and keeps, helps people with problems, quests, etc.
• Story has a flying ship thing run by a manic-depressive (bipolar) guy who dresses like a dandy.
• This guy also has a maid/cook girl with an odd disease – she has holes and missing limbs, I think it’s called “Null disease”. Other people across the lands have it as well.
• Knight girl meets up with flying ship guy.
I remember the books from about 12 years ago, maybe? Not sure when they were written.
I also remember them being in English AND left-top-right reading, not right-to-left style.
Any ideas?
EDIT:

I know we’re not supposed to bump, but I’ve been looking everywhere for this, trying all the usual Google search combinations (Oand some unusual ones.. and got results you don’t wanna know.. ewww!!)
So, anyone else have any ideas (and I thank those 10 who looked in for looking in.. so to speak.)
Answer #2
Yeah, sorry about that… My second time checking in, because I was curious and I had hoped somebody found it for you… Graphic novel lover myself, but this really doesn’t ring a bell…

I’ll try and describe it better.
It starts off being line art drawn, with a little hatch-shading.
The girl has a metal knight bubble-suit, water proof, quite big, she can moive under the ocean in it.
She meets up with people inside a keep or castle, they have a problem with some sort of creature. She helps.
Meanwhile, main story #2:
There’s a disease across the city/land – it’s a null infection, people start getting holes in them, they can function OK with the holes but pnce the holes take over the body the person is gone.
There’s a guy, a foppish dandy type, he has an airship, spaceship, submarine, combination thingy (i think he stole it).
He’s looking for a cure to the null disease; his “maid”, cook, helper, onboard has the disease.
He is also bipolar, swings from manically excited and go-getter, we can do this, type down to fully depressed and life isn’t worth living.
The knight suit girl end up meeting up with the airship about book 2 or 3, they work together to find the cure to the null disease.
Occasionally they separate into two story lines, joining up later on.

I remember about 4 to 6 volumes, small format book, thick, with hard cover, colour front and back but no colour inside.
A graphic art plate separates chapters – a scene of the knight girl or the ariship, whatever.
The books read left to right, English style.

What sort of GNs do you like?
I’m pretty much open to anything; Akira, Nausica, even the 2000AD collections (Flesh/Dredd/Rogue Trooper/etc), Gaiman’s Sandman set, Conan…
I’ll let you know if i find this one.

I’ve tried searching but can’t find much, Have you checked here? Any keywords or character names you have could identify it for you

Answer #5
The trouble I;m having is that the search sites for manga and comics often don’t understand “-” (minus)
And “knight” give 30 billion comics of batman, “bipolar” gives only a few with that title, “airship” gives Nausicaa and others.
I miss this story – I’ve been looking for the name so I can buy a set from Amazon. It was that good..

I did try some keywords, but encountered the same problem as you have… About my kinda GN, you summed up a few I like already; Akira, Nausicaa (beautiful story IMO). 2000AD, that’s also the collection with the ABC Warriors isn’t it? If so, I like it too! I could go on and on, but I’ll just name a select few from my top 5: Anything Frank Miller has to share, Cerebus. I also try to broaden my horizon, but sadly due to circumstances I haven’t been able to feed my GN addiction for a while… Anyways, good luck with the search ey!

ABC Warriors – yes, that’s them too. Johhny Alpha (Strontium Dog), etc.
Have you seen Crossed? – definitely not safe for work, but an interesting story (and it will NEVER be made into a film or anime!!)
I confess to preferring the line art or cell shaded style of Conan/200AD and the early Sandman novels – the newer more realistic graphics seem “off” to me..
It’s odd, really, some graohic styles just switch me right off a story – one of the Strontium Dog episodes was done in a grungy odd form of “genetic cancerous boils allo over people” style, I hated it.
Thanks, mate.. I’ll let you know the name if I find it.
It was an odd little story, but interesting.
