Format External 1TB HDD

August 6th, 2016

So I plugged in my external Seagate HDD in my desktop but for some reason it was not popping up. So I think it was the computer since it is an older computer. I plugged it in laptop and Windows is telling me I need to format it. I am not sure why I need to but I don’t want to because all the stuff I have on here. I don’t want to lose anything. Any suggestions?

get “Hard Disk Sentinel” and check the drives health to see if there’s any physical problems with the drive

Yeah, Use file scavenger (A data recovery app) to recover it, Get it from here:

Pick the HDD itself from the list (Not the drive letter) and do a long scan, Choose
no when it asks you if you want it to look for deleted files (As it’s technically a file system corruption) give it a while and it’d find it all. Do note that you must have another HDD with enough free space to recover it to – This is essential, So better buy one if needed!
Once you’ve fully recovered your data, Just format it so it’d become usable again.
Also, Better follow ‘s advice too as these kind of problems can be
caused by bad HDD! It can also be caused by disconnecting it improperly (You should always
safely remove it first to be on the safe side) Anyways, Good luck!

What is the best program to use to try and recover files and also possibly fix the corrupted file on the external HDD? I have Windows 7.

All I have to say is… HUH?!
Have you even fully read my post?
I already gave you my recommendation (Not to mention instructions)
The files themselves are not corrupted, It’s only the MFT (Master File Table)
