flac vs mp3

January 22nd, 2020

Hey guys. Quick question. Converted .flac files to mp3 is better quality than 320kbps?
Answer #1
There should be no difference, given all audio files are first ripped to WAV format, then converted to your desired lossless format, be it FLAC, APE, etc. You then convert from that format to MP3.
Answer #2
Yea, there would be no difference, because all 320kbps were lossless before conversion
Answer #3
all that happens is the file size increases more or less
Answer #4
FLAC is lossless. MP3 is lossy. If you have a great hi-fidelity system or $300 headphones, you’ll definitely agree the FLAC sounds better than the converted MP3. But for run of the mill listening you won’t be able to hardly tell the difference.
Answer #5
With flac you know what you’re getting. Converted to mp3, unless you did it yourself, needs to be checked because a 320 file may actually be something less.

Thanks for the info guys..

But, sometimes, there are fake FLACs around, that can even have been made from 128kbs MP3s. Best to get FLAC from realiable sources, random torrents etc can have unpredictable results.
