Dual Monitor Issue AFTER Reboot
August 3rd, 2023
Decided to reboot my computer this morning shortly after I woke up, becuase I normally do that every so often. (my computer stays on most of the time)
My computer had dual monitors for months (1x monitor / 1x TV monitor) When I recently rebooted it just stopped detecting both at the same time. Both DVI Ports work properly and both displays work properly by themselves. Reinstalled Windows, no fix yet. any ideas?
Been working around 5 hours to figure out a fix for this issue, and im turning to you guys to help me out!
Radeon R9 390x 8GB, my whole rig is only a few months old!

Did not find anything useful in that post that I havent done. I’m going to look at ANY drivers i can download what-so-ever. and look into bios again but i didnt find anything the first time.
Did all I could, even enabled IGPU Multi-Monitor and tried the integrated dvi
Now that is a weird one if the problem happens with video card or integrated graphics and with newly installed Windows !
Could be some installed service or app that starts with Windows, so you could try a clean boot.

I’m thinking that it still could be a bios problem, so try resetting bios/UEFI by removing mains power
and then using the reset jumper, button or removing the battery, whatever is required for your mobo..
Sometimes, just turning the mains power off for half a minute to let the power drain, can be useful.
Presume you have done it, but thought id mention…
Have you tried both monitors first on monitor 1 to make sure there both compatible on the selected resoltion, secondly make sure both monitors are running on compatible resolutions.. For example if they both work on cable 1, but not on 2 monitors the second monitor may not be compatible with the second resolution hence the black screen.. Just my two cents to try… Difficult problem, unless its in front of you…

I tried clean boot, updating UEFI to latest AND removed bios battery. I also unplugged the power for 1 minute+
Still does not detect 2nd monitor.
It acts like it wants to connect, because the 2nd monitor is a TV and when I turn it on, or switch sources. It’ll wait for 30 seconds like its trying to connect but then just pops up “No Signal”

Thanks for the advice, but considering both monitors were working together for months, and working completely fine until I simply rebooted. I dont think its a resolution problem. I also reset the TV and Monitors settings.
Seems like a detection problem.
Are cables from/to monitor and tv plugged in securely?
Try new cables
Borrow another TV or monitor and see if you can get two of them working together.
Just some thoughts !

Old Cable > DVI to HDMI
New Cable > HDMI to HDMI
New cable seemed to have worked, tho I dont understand why. considering the old cable worked SOLO. however, I suppose I will just have to buy a longer HDMI > HDMI cable, as the cable needs to reach long ways ^^
Thanks for the help and I will just stick with this solution.
Yes there is a loop circuit used to detect a monitor or TV, So one bad wire or contact could cause the problem.
A single monitor can force detect but the second one must see a proper circuit.
Now I usually tell the peeps to turn their PCs off at night to save power and ‘wear’.
But in this case, I’ll leave it to you……..We don’t want another 5 minute job to take all day….

Well, I had figured that a new cord, could possibly fix it all along, I just didnt want to resort to that because I didnt have a long enough HDMI > HDMI to fit across the room and im tired of dealing with it.
However, thanks for the information with the bad wire thing. i didnt know that. I figured it wouldnet work AT ALL. if it didnt make perfect contact.
