Desktop wont turn on, it may be the motherboard
July 28th, 2013
It seems that I have ran into a problem with my gaming rig. Its been a week and for some odd reason the computer wont turn on. Now I checked everything so far and it seems ok. I even got a friend of mines to stop by and test out the parts. We confirmed the power supply is ok, so it cant be that. So its either something im doing wrong or its just the mobo. Please help ASAP
If it’s not the PSU then it’s clearly the mobo, No other possibility.
Just to verify, Your saying it doesn’t turn on at all, Correct?
How exactly did you confirm the PSU is okay?
All mobos have a light that should be on at all times (while it’s receiving power and working as it should at least) is it on?
It’s more than likely the mobo.

Could also be faulty connection somewhere, or the power switch I/O board.
I remember my friend using a staple to see if it was to turn on or not. The power LED turned on, so we confirmed it. Problem of it was, we dont think my motherboard model included a light within the motherboard (it is a H61H2-M3), so we wasnt able to clarify if that was the problem.
the staple as a jumper bypasses the power button but you may still have a bad 5v or 12v rail in the PSU
can you remove the power button connector from the mobo and jump the mobo power pins with a screwdriver
or can you get another PSU to try before replacing the mobo
that’s a fairly new mobo but it may have defective capacitors

I took another look of the motherboard. No capacitors seems to be leaked nor loose.

seems to new but never hurts to check
you try the others ?
Yes I did. Not sure where to go from there. Should I place more focus on getting a new power supply or motherboard?
getting a new power supply
have you tried a diff one yet
if you don’t have one can you get one locally that you can return if it don’t help ?
the mobo new enuf to get warranty ?
get your friend’s gfx card and psu and try it for some time it may be the psc and gfx card.
does the fan on your gfx and cpu rotates?
@ed:Wasnt able to see him yesterday, so we didnt check anything yet.
@Coldice: when it was working both fans rotated, but I cant test them out anymore since theres no power within my desktop
UPDATE: My desktop has been fixed. Turns out it was the front panel wires connected wrong haha. Happy as fudge now, and thank you everybody for giving me advice!!
