Dead Island Saving?

I recently downloaded the game “Dead Island” and the game works fine.
The issue that I seem to run into is I cannot save the game?
Every time I start it makes me start a brand new game, how can I save?
1-play the game longer to the first auto save
2-make sure you have the crack fix. If you need crack link
