Connecting 2nd hard drive?

August 5th, 2016

Hi everyone,
My computer currently has a 1TB (can’t remember brand) SATA drive, and I have a spare 1TB WD Caviar Green sitting around, which I tried to connect, but once connected, when booting the computer, it won’t get past the first HP screen (where you can choose to go into BIOS etc etc). I tried going into BIOS, but I just get a black screen with a flashing “_”. Once the second hard drive is unplugged, computer starts off fine. Hard drive works fine in an external case, and the cords work fine in my DVD burner. Also tried using multiple SATA connections on motherboard – no luck. Any ideas?
Cheers all.

Hello there,
Please remove the hard disk drive that you have added, and try again. Just to find the cause of the problem.

I did that, and it turned on when the hard drive i’m adding is disconnected, it will boot up fine, so I connected it again, and it wouldn’t boot past the HP screen again.

When you have the 2nd drive disconnected, go into the bios and check out the boot sequence. There may be a mix up there.

Tried that, boot priority is set to Hard Drive Group, and my main hard drive is set as the priority in there.
