connect to internet through laptop.

I connect to the internet with my laptop while plugged into the modem, even though it is a laptop i dont have a wireless router in my apartment, really no need. Is there anyway for me to connect my ipod touch to the internet through my laptop?
I have tried two options.
1)creating an adhoc connection, which i could connect to,but no internet
2)in my laptops wifi adapter under properties i allowed (allow other devices to connect to internet through this computer) from there i don’t know what to do i have tried these two things together and seperately.
any suggestions/help besides getting a wifi router?

iv’e tried going through both of those, but nothing is working any ideas anyone?
