Are you sure it is bootable? Have you tried to boot from it on an another computer?
Answer #2
yes i tried it another systems as well.. even if put the dvd which i used to install win 7 doesnt work
Answer #3
maybe you need a clean partition to install it on, thats the only thing i can think of, when i do a reinstall i run a ubuntu live cd use gparted to delete the partition and make a new one then boot up the win xp disk.
Answer #4
heres the suggestion, try format the whole win 7 only start boot the window xp disk, this is because window 7 rc is not upgradable or degradeble, you need a clean install or clean remove from it to have another os
Answer #5
how can i make it a clean partition ?
Answer #6
i think i cant format the disc while running right?
Answer #7
theres bootable disks for partition stuff but i cant think of the names off the top of my head, like i said i use a ubuntu live cd and run gparted.
edit: no you cant format while you are running your main os

Check your bios…Does it recognise your CD/CVD Drive?…Does Windows recognise it ?
When you first power up, your bios might suggest you press a key(say F10) to select boot device..
If you can get it to start booting on the CD, then remember to press any key straight away so that it stays on the CD..Otherwise it will revert to the HD..
Answer #9
windows recognise my cd… in bios where i need to check it….
Answer #10
i checked in bios set up it shows no optical drive connected but cd rom is working perfectly fine in windows…
Answer #11
what kind of computer do you have?
Answer #12
intel core 2 duo with gigabyte s series mother board
Answer #13
ok this is the only thing i can think of to do, this is a step by step guide.
1.download a ubuntu live cd
2.find the terminal and type sudo gparted
3.delete what would be your C: drive
4.create a new partion(ntfs for xp)
5.hit apply etc restart insert xp cd
6.install xp sp3
this is what i do when i do a reinstall, you might be able to find some youtube vids or something to help you through the process.
i didnt think of this before but i think windows 7/vista uses a different file format than xp, that might be your problem. xp uses ntfs.

Do other CDs work fine when booting? I had a problem like this, turned out to be compatibility issue with my motherboard and my CD Drive. I would also try as above with ubuntu
