CD/DVD drive running extremely slow while installing games

January 26th, 2020

I need assistance quite fast, I’ve got a CD/DVD RW which I’ve had a long time in my PC, I’m trying to install Crysis and its taking up to 1 hour, and with Flight Simulator Deluxe edition, I left it 4 hours and it didnt move very fast. I’ve disabled Avira, and have hardly any programs running. If I’m trying to run a program while its installing, if I Google something my PC goes unresponsive for about 30 seconds.
Also my CD/DVD Drive speeds up and then after 10 seconds, it like stops, and keeps doing this the whole time.
Anyone got any ideas? *Recently reinstalled XP like 10 days ago*

Bump, I’m really desperate!

What anti-virus do you have? That could be slowing things down as it checks every file that is being transferred.
Something worth a try is to unplug your DVD/CD inside your PC, reboot your PC without it connected. Shut down your PC, reconnect it again.
Also, check your BIOS settings and if there is the option …. Allow Windows to reconfigure IRQ’s.

Ahh thanks, it was Avira I’d changed settings, uninstalled it back to SAVCE10 I guess.
