can’t reinstall windows live messenger.

February 10th, 2020

well, lately i been having some problems with my PC again. i fixed it by removing a ram cartridge that i guess was bad. this has nothing to do with my problem though.
see, i uninstalled windows live messenger before all this happened via add and remove programs. but now i want to get it back. when i try, the installer says windows live messenger is already installed, although i can’t even find the windows live directory on my disk. i’m guessing some registry keys were not removed or something. can anyone give me a guide to completely remove it? if i do it myself, i will just end up deleting some registry key that i needed and end up reinstalling windows.

Answer #1
Try this:
Star -> Run -> “regedit” -> Ctrl + F “windows live messenger” -> Delete the registries
edit: Does it show up in Add/Remove Programs?

wow why didn’t i think of that, i completely forgot regedit had a search function. I’ll delete the values and see if it fixed it. from the looks of things, i’m going to be doing this for awhile. i found a ton of left overs.
nope, don’t show up in add/remove any more.
EDIT: i deleted all registry keys, except for one that said i was unable to delete it. still, i can’t reinstall it because it says it’s “already installed”.

Don’t right click each one and delete it that way. Hold down CTRL and click the ones you want to delete then just right click after selecting them alll and delete. It will be much faster.

i had the same problem a while ago, only way i got round it was to use your uninstaller which can be found on this site.. this will remove everything for you. then you should be able to re-install.
it worked for me and i now use this program to remove anything i dont want as it removes registry entries and all things related to the stuff your removing for you
Answer #6
and if all that fails just install trillian or one of the other programs like it to run your messanger till you get it figured out
Answer #7
okay, i tried “your uninstaller 2009” and windows live don’t show up in it either. something isn’t right, something happened and i probably won’t ever be able to use it again.
i tried trillian, but it never logs into msn, it just keeps saying “temporary connected” or something like that. i tried pidgin and it don’t work, i tried digsby and it don’t work. the only way i can access msn is from a website called ebuddy, but i hate going to that website every single time i want to get on msn. any other suggestions?
could it be that my firewall (eset smart security) and router (linksys wrt54g) are interfering with it? they never interfered in the past, and with trillian, i can still log into other IM services such as yahoo.

format your pc =]
Answer #9
Only way you could do it is install a earlier version of MSN and then it will update to the latest version.
