Can’t boot Windows – hall.dll missing

January 23rd, 2020

My brother was deleting programs in the “Add/Remove programs” utility and must have removed something important as now the computer won’t start.
The message we get is:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\hall.dll
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

I can’t use a floppy boot disk as I have nowhere to write one and don’t really know what I’m doing to be honest.
Can anyone tell me where I can find this .dll file, how to install it or, just generally, what I should be doing?
Thanks everyone.

get ur xp disk and just do a repair installation it should replace all .dll files with the fresh new ones mate
Answer #3
hal.dll is system critical, it means the Hardware Access Library (or something close) and contains the info of your hardware.. Noted above, a windows repair should do the trick.

Thanks folks. I’ll give it a try and see how it goes.
The problem is I got the PC from Dell so they didn’t send out the XP disk (very helpful!) but I’m sure I can borrow one from somewhere.
Answer #5
download a XP live disc, download the dll from dll.com and add it in that Disc. boot from live CD and just copy paste the new hall.dll in %systemroot%\system32. done.
coz repair may take lots of time but this process requires 5 mins only.

: I tried your advice but kept coming up with the same problem.
Everyone else: Then I tried the repair installation and it worked fine but found the pc was ridiculously slow so I just cleared it and reinstalled windows totally.
Thanks for all your help.
