building a new pc. i need your advice!

April 14th, 2022

im building a new pc because mine can no longer handle the new games.
current setup
xfx8200 mobo
anthalon 64×2 5800+
nvidia geforce 9600 gso 768mg
2gb ddr2 ram
windows 8.1
my main concern is whether or not i need a new mobo or if i can just replace the cpu.
i was thinking a gtx 760ti 2 or 4 gig
and 4-8 gigs of ram
i have no idea what to buy for a mobo and cpu.
i have a budget of about 500 bucks.
i will be playing on a 32 inch 720p hdmi tv i cant afford fancy monitors.
if i can play all 2014 games on high – ultra that would be great. and if i can play next years games on medium – high and next ect
i have been using the 9600gso since the 9 series came out. i just want somthing that can handle todays games perfect and tomorrows decently. i dont need to play games on ultra but if i buy a setup that can hardly play todays games it would probably lag and be choppy as hell on tomorrows games.
thank you guys/girls in advance!!!! id be willing to spend a few extra bucks if needed

thanks man!!
how are the asus motherboards?
i dont need any fancy motherboards that are pricey just because the name and looks, if you know what i mean. i dont care if it looks like a poop brown piece of plastic that some 5 yearold in taiwan assembled lol, if it performs the way it should thats all that matters
like i said im on a kinda low budget oof 500 bucks. my computer cost 900 bucks back in the day. because of the fancy case powersupply and namebrand product. i have one of those big xion cases with the seethrough side and green leds. this thing has like ten fans in it sounds like a jet taking off when i turn them all to full power just to cool it down after a few hours of gaming.
i hope that comment didnt offend anyone, im just trying to have a little fun and maybe get a laugh.

most are the same …made in big factories
asus gigabyte msi ……
newegg is great for searching for specs on boards. Their search and options menu is top notch. they have some combo’s to save a few bucks also
once you find the one google it to compare….newegg is good but not always the cheapest
newegg
tigerdirect (check the cart here if the prices are identical on other sites. i was able to get by state tax on this site more than once )
microcenter
are just a few site examples
i believe pci express is up to 3.1 now and ddr3 is pretty cheap i got 16 gig (8gb x 2 sticks) ballistic ddr3 1600 for 105.00 american just last week from newegg
Answer #4
woah dood, stay away from amd crap, they have currently lost their edge.
for every amd processor, there is a faster intel processor for less.
Answer #5
I had Asus motherboard before and I am currently using an Asus VI Extreme. Expansive but I loved it
Mine also sound like a jet. I can hear it upstairs in the morning lol

thanks guys!
i have know idea what to specs and numbers mean lol. i see a 4gb video card that someone calls crap and a 2gb one out performs that 4gb, i have no idea how or why…. could someone explain to me some of that stuff/?
id hate to buy a whole setup because i seen 4g video and fancy word on the cpu just to be completely dissapointed lol.
like i said i have know idea on this stuff, its my first time building a pc. my pc was build by a friend a few years back.

edit: you are building a new system didn’t read correctly.
usually when one asks for help for a new build, supply the following for the regulars
to offer their specific advise.
1- budget, you said $500 2-where do you live?
3-Where do you want to buy from? Internet? local store?
4-are you close to a Microcenter? (best motherboard/processor pricing)
5-are you starting from the bottom up? meaning all new parts?
6-what parts do you have that you want to be moved into this new build?
if you answered the above, many here will give you specific advise in your budget of $500 USD
if i can play all 2014 games on high
if someone can build a gaming machine for all 2014 games on highest setting, I too will be buying
Don’t think it will happen with $500 usd

6-what parts do you have that you want to be moved into this new build? pretty much the only thing i will keep is my fans and power supply
yeh i guess the playing on high does kinda sound unrealistic lol. alot of people online dont believe me but i play skyrim on high, tomb raider 2013 on ultra, metro last light on most options high andfall out new vegas on ultra, mostly plays flawlessly till my computer gets warm( 2+ hours on high/ultra) then it starts getting a little chop and the the frame jump thing almost like a movie skipping a frame or 1 second scene.

You can hook up your PC to that TV using hdmi. I suggest forgoing overclocking in favor of a better gpu.
CPU: Intel Core i5-3470 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($149.99 @ Microcenter)
Motherboard: ASRock H77M Micro ATX LGA1155 Motherboard ($69.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Sniper 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($43.98 @ Outlet PC)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 500GB 3.5″ 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($58.98 @ Outlet PC)
Video Card: XFX Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB Video Card ($239.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Cooler Master HAF 912 ATX Mid Tower Case ($39.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 500W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V Power Supply ($39.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $642.91
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)
If you are near a microcentre, see if you can pick up a 3570k + z77 mobo for cheap, its worth it if you can otherwise just use the above.

For its price, this MSI Board was fairly satisfactory.
Pros:-
Dual Chan RAM with four slots
PCIe 3.0 slot
Many ports
LGA 1150 Compatible
Cons:-
USB 3.0 Port is almost impossible to connect because its slot is too close to the Motherboard Power connector. It was physically impossible in my case to connect the case ports.
Slot for CPU pushpins is of questionable quality.
Overall, this is definitely worth it for the price, especially with the CPU Bundle. (i5 4670k).

the msi board i posted?
Answer #13
The 4th gen MSI board with the i5 would be nice.
If you can’t afford it, you could get the i3 bundle…
Being a full Z87 board you can upgrade to i5 or i7 no problems http://www.microcenter.com/site/brands/intel-processor-bundles.aspx
PS you might have to file a bit off the USB header plug

I usually go for Gigabyte boards, even their low end is fine.
My luck with MSI was never that great.

If your running normal resolution like 1080p and a single monitor then a 2gb is more than enough. Now if your like me running game at 5760*1080 on all max setting then you better get that 4gb card.
4gb and a 2gb will be the same if the game you are playing and the setting you have does not take up all of the 2gb. If the game take more than 2 gb then you will see a 4gb card will out perform an 2gb card. Since you are on a budget and your playing on an 720p resolution. 2gb is more than enough for that. You wont be able to play 2014 games on ultra unless you go low resolution or throw some cash out

I had their z87-gd65. Ran into some trouble. Contacted them and all they did was copy and paste the answer which didnt solved my question.
Gigabyte and Asus is a thumb up.
