building a new PC

August 1st, 2016

Hello everyone.
I am searching for a good processor i7, i5 etc with a compatible motherboard and everything
I already have “HIS 7950 3GB 384 bit”, so graphics is not an issue.
I need a good processor that can play GTA V on max, the upcoming battlefield 4 and crysis 3 on Ultra.
I am aware of the fact the “Haswell” processors have been introduced but i cannot find any pick.
i7 4770 and 4770k are a good choice for me. However, tomshardware suggested that they do not offer any new goodies than i5 3770 or 3770k
I’m also aware of the new motherboard technology LGA 2011 but im not exactly sure which one to go for.
Please assist in any way you guys can to help me figure out which processor or motherboard to go for.
PS: Budget is not an issue but im not going to spend $500+ on i7 3990 either.

Determine your processor first (That’s always my starting point) and storage medium (HD or SSD) SATA 1 2 3 then base your MB that has the SATA speed supported. AMD= HYPERTRANSPORT INTEL=FSB You need a motherboard that can keep up with the processor and also fits the form factor you’re needing. I would suggest purchasing the CPU only and getting a decent Heat sink.
1. Storage Medium Determine Your SATA Speed
2. Processor (you’re going to have to research this on your own, pay attention to L Cache L2 Cache and L3 Cache) only CPU get a heatsink that fits it’s socket
3. Motherboard that has SATA speed required (step 1) and motherboard that has hypertransport or fsb to keep up with processor as well as SOCKET type. AM3 and AM3+ DO NOT FIT EACH OTHER be careful and review your socket types.
4. The rest of the steps are basically making sure you have the right specs per RAM,PSU,Graphics card, etc…
Once your motherboard is chosen you have to stick with the form factor (your PSU will also follow that form factor)
EX:
MB=MICRO ATX
COMPUTER CASE=MICRO ATX
POWER SUPPLY= MICRO ATX If you have any questions message me.
MY writing isn’t the best so feel free to ask questions.

Just a suggestion,
Go with I7 3930k with X79 or go with Ivy bridge 3770k with Asus maximus

I am confused now.. more than ever.
I already have HDD.. im not going for SSD right now.
I already have a graphics card.
I am mostly concerned with what processor and motherboard i should choose.
(4th Gen. 4770, 4770k)
(3rd Gen. 3770, 3770k)
or the new 3930 << this is extremely expensive btw.
and what motherboard would be a good fit for the processor.
Just a suggestion,
Go with I7 3930k with X79 or go with Ivy bridge 3770k with Asus maximus

Im good for 3770k but what about the Haswell (4th Gen.) processors?
Answer #4
Do you plan to overclock?
The processors that you are look at will be significantly hindered by your HDD. I see little benefit of 4th gen Intels over 3rd gen.

I agree, the Haswell processors are reportedly running hotter than the Ivy Bridge which would severely hinder overclocking. You should definitely look into an SSD for your OS and main programs/apps.

alright… i’ll add a 60 GB SSD to the list.
I do not plan to overclock and if what you are saying is correct that 4th Gen is running hotter than i cant consider buying them as in my country 110 degrees is the usual temperature.
Talking about 3rd Gen processors then, 3770k is the best option?
and any compatible motherboard?
Answer #7
For your budget yes, personal choice of Mobo is Asus Sabertooth Z77, but there are plenty of compatible mobo’s, I would invest a bit on one though (not buy too cheap) as its the basis of your build.

If you really don’t plan to overclock, you could instead get a 3770 (no K), as it will save you a bit of money, which you could instead invest in a CPU cooler (if the high temps become a problem).
Yea, 4th gen apparently use MORE power on load too (but significantly less on idle). I guess they’re just waiting for AMD to catch up.

Alright thanks guys.. appreciate the help.
is awesome..
