Browsers (all) running incredibly slowly

July 3rd, 2021

Hi Guys,
All of my browsers are functioning very slowly. This includes Google, Firefox and IE (IE is running the fastest). It’s basically very slow loading times and text-typing lags. New tab takes several seconds to load and websites such as Lifehacker are just painful to load the full page. All other laptop functions including booting are working fine.
AMD Quad corse processor (up to 1.4ghz), 4gb ram, AMD Radeon HD8250, 128 SDD (25gb free), Windows 8.1. http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/pcs/NP905S3G-K02US
My laptop is only 4 months old. Was working fine until one day, when it became very slow on browsers only.
Ran CCcleaner, Avast full system scans, re-installed clean windows, free’d up all space (of course after the clean windows install), running laptop on high-performance mode. No issues at all.
I’ve been unable to find any fixes. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Doug

Try uninstalling your anti-virus (you can always reinstall it) and see how that goes. I have just dumped Avast and now have only Malwarebytes installed.
re-installed clean windows
Make sure you update all your hardware drivers if you did a fresh install and get all the Microsoft updates downloaded because Flash Player for Windows 8.1 is now a Microsoft update.
Check device manager for any yellow (not connected) thingies.
And reboot your your internet connection router.

Is there a process that is using more resources than it should? Have you checked that your internet connection is stable, with expected download speeds and low ping? You might also want to scan your system with Malwarebytes and see if anything pops up
If I had to guess though, I would suspect that a program associated with browsers (like flash) was improperly installed/updated, thus causing a slowdown that only affects browsers

what tests have you done with your internet? Download speed tests? ping tests?

Thanks for the response. I uninstalled AVG and scanned with Malwarebytes. Would you reccomend that using the free version is perfectly fine for protection and scanning purposes? It found a lot of funky stuff which it quarantined, hopefully this helps.
I uninstalled flash and installed the most recent version directly from Flash website for Windows 8.1. So it’s now the most up-to-date. I also have (before had too) all Windows updates.
No yellow thingies on device manager.
I rebooted internet to factory settings before, and just restarted too.
Result: Browsers actually seem a bit faster now! Not rapid, but faster!

Thanks for the response sir!
No process seems to be hogging resources.
Internet seems reliable enough. In Ukraine though. I’m paying for a ‘100 mbs’ service. I’ve attached the speedtest.net result. Does this seem fine? Typically I achieve reliable download speeds from RG at 2mbs, 56 ping on speed tests.

I reinstalled Flash cleanly. Seems to be the correct up-to-date version now. Things seem faster!
Thanks again!

Thank-you for your response.
My speed test is above. It’s a typical and usual result, with usual speeds @ 2mbs.

okay, do a clean install with NOTHING installed, get a portable browser like Chrome and try to replicate your problem.
I haven’t used a full program for windows in months, I always find and search for portable apps.
get a clean unactivated .ISO from digital river, make sure it’s not pre activated or any crap like it.
remember, clean install; do NOT install anything; this includes drivers etc and make sure your Internet is working.< may need a driver for that!

This seems like a very drastic solution that may be needed without another fix.
The above fixes worked a little bit, but things still running slowly..
