Blue Screen of Death After Upgrade
August 27th, 2013
take it back if you’re having problems with it that’s the best solution
First mistake was shopping at PC world..They sell overpriced rubbish.
What’s the full system spec? including details of the new PSU installed.
And what did you upgrade from?
I had a stock HP6565uk. I upgraded :
GPU: ASUS HD6950 2GB
PSU: OCZ 650 watt (get more info on this in the morning)
RAM: 2x PNY DDR3 4GB 1333MHz
And I also added the Antec 600 case – it was going for 30 as a clearance item.
So far, PC World have been terrible. They took over 2 extra days to fit the stuff – even when confronted* about it. The only reason I took it to PC World was because of the warranty and the so called “know how” team who don’t even know how long it takes to build a PC! (Sorry sure the bad pun, but the comment still remains true)
On a brighter note, I have so far found this website delightful in many different ways.
*EDIT: confronted, not connected. Apologies, I’m using my phone as my PC keeps BSODing.
Go back to them!
Mindripper 1 replied: I've just taken my PC into PC World and had them install a new graphics card, PSU and an extra 8GB of RAM into my machine. However, now I get random BSODs at any given time. Any help? I've tried updating drivers and using an SFC scan. If this problem remains by tomorrow, I shall have to take it back in then. Thank you for all helpful replies, I just hope it works *fingers crossed*
Never trust PC world. Their IT support staff is rubbish! They were first known as “The Tech Guys” and are now known as “Whatever Happens”. They might have changed thier names, but their service is poor and the staff are not helpful.
I suggest you go to an independant technician or ask a friend / collegue who have some knowledge in IT. Good luck!
may aswell take it back and complain.
better then you doing trial and error.
im thinking bad ram.
Sorry Belderan, I wasn’t too sure where to post. Thank you for correcting.
Ste, what do you mean by bad RAM? That the RAM is faulty?
It will help to know the stop codes on the BSODs.
As -paroxysM^ said above, you could post your minidumps here, and someone can take a look
C\Windows\Minidump
rar them and upload to a filehost and post here.
PC World here in the UK are totally useless – avoid. You will get used/returned crap put in your puter. Hope you security marked the good stuff with a UV marker pen, they have a habit of pinching your stuff too and replacing with crap.

yes but follow what the meerkat and paroxysm said. then you should know for sure.
I should have included this earlier, the RAM can be tested with Memtest quite easily, let it do a good 6-7 full passes.

Thanks guys, PC World now have my PC. They seem to think that faulty RAM is the cause and are replacing it and then running some tests to check everything so I should have it back by tomorrow. However, I think that this may be the last time I use PC World.
