Black box release?

September 21st, 2013

With respect to game releases, what exactly is the difference between a regular and a black box release/repack?

I’m a little lost.

Black Box releases are generally full repacks (or sometimes RIPs) that generally only have 1 language (English) and are highly compressed.
The audio, video components should be the same quality. The components that are RIPed are normally stated (besides languages).
Regular is the contains the exact image as from one you would find if you bought it.
I generally get the black boxes to save bandwidth. The only downside is the longer installation, but that’s a given considering it’s noticeably smaller than the retail versions.

Ah .. well that settles it, I guess. Only black box downloads henceforth

If there is an update, you might not be able to update it.
Considerations, considerations.
Answer #4
Always go for full ISO, never do repacks.
