Best software for backing up DVDs to hard drive?
August 28th, 2013
I recently got all of our old home VHS videos converted to DVDs (there were about 40 of them). I’d like to back these DVDs up onto my computer and was wondering what the best software would be for this. I’d like for the software to:
a) preserve audio and video quality.
b) be fast and efficient – I’ve got 40 DVDs to backup so I don’t want to have to fiddle around with hundreds of technical options before ripping.
I thought this forum would have plenty of people who could advise me on this matter.
Much appreciated!
what format do you want rip them in ?
When you took your home VHS videos and converted them to DVD… What format are they?
just download “Aimersoft dvd ripper” from apps section, and rip the dvds to avi format
to your hard drive, you should use divx format in options. and choose medium or high quality.
I use DVDFab
it’s the best, imho
DVD Fab Platinum prolly the best!
Unless you want to loose quality and time, there is no need to Rip anything..
Each DVD contains a VIDEO_TS folder.
Just copy that folder (with everything, including the folder itself) into a folder on your hard drive with the name of the DVD.
You could also make an Image file of the disk.
ImgBurn can do that..

Of course if you want them smaller, you will have to Rip..
DVDFab Platinum is easy enough to use.
For an average movie I would make them about 1000MB for a DivX/.avi format.
Or you could go for H.264/.mkv and make them about 500MB.
Freemake Video Converter is another good one you can try..

Free and simple to use and will handle your DVDs no problem
DVDFab has my vote
