Battlefield 3 low FPS problem

October 14th, 2013

Hi.
This game is alwals on low FPS, even on low resolution. I’ve an asus G73jw with GTX460m.
Any solution?
Thank you

Answer #1
Have you tried lowering graphical settings other than resolution. and running no aa etc?
Answer #2
Yes, I lowered the resolution to 1024 and the graphical settings to low with no aa. I runs okay for few seconds, but then the FPS reduces a lot

Lower your settings, close unnecessary applications. Try out the drivers specially designed for this game. Both nvidia and amd released them, check those out.

Having the same problem on my pc. I can play Crysis 1 & 2 whitout any problems on 1600-1200 on very high.
But this game is giving me hell on 1024-768 high setings. My fps would go from 60 to 20. I researched a little bit. And found that poeple on Ultra rigs are having problem whit the game. I belive it has something to do whit the cracked version of the game. i mean there would probably be no problems with an original copy of Battelfield
Edit 285,62 nvidia g force driver installed
Answer #5
I installed the 285,62 nvidia g force driver, closed everything. On 1024-780 on low graphic settings its runs okay of some seconds but then it runs on really low FPS.
Maybe it’s the craked version. I’m using the Reload BF3.
What’s the command to show the FPS on BF3? ( I’ve tried Ctrl+Alt+s with no success).
Thank you everyone that’s trying to help
Answer #6
Disable HT in the bios.
Answer #7
Update the game guys. Btw rafaair use Fraps for realtime FPS monitoring.
Answer #8
Fraps worked fine. With it, I noticed that the game runs on 60 fps on low resolution for a few seconds, but then it goes to 10fps. I don’t now if there is something to do about the temperature of the Nvidia (about 98C).
Answer #9
Here’s a great fix: BUY THE GAME!
98 degrees is something I would really worry about. If I were you I would lower the overclocked settings. If it wasn’t overclocked, I would underclock it.

I agree with this, your temperature does seem a bit high and it’s probably the source of the problem. You need to figure out how to optimize air flow within your system and see if that fixes it. If it don’t happen in any other games, heat is still a factor because Battlefield 3 is more intensive for your GPU. Not all games use your GPU to it’s fullest potential. Frames that start high and drop increasingly almost always indicates heating issues.
I own an Asus g50v myself which is an older model for laptop gaming and I had the same issues a few months ago. The only game that I noticed it in was TF2. I just opened her up, took an air compressor to the heatsink and fans and that fixed all issues for me. If you do this, make sure you hold the fan down so it don’t spin around while blowing compressed air into it because that could damage your bearings.
Anyway, my temps were around 80c while even idle. After blowing out the dust and dirt, down to 60c idle. It’s still hot, but it’s usually normal for intensive laptops.
The video below is a demonstration to the problem. You can see how well the game in the video runs and then slows down.

you are on a laptop, strike one for pc gaming
maybe your laptop overall system is slowing down the game

My graphics card reaches 66C on full load and i have the same problem. I am aware that my graphics is not top of the line. But it still kicks ass in many games on 1600/1200p But for Battelfield 3 i lowered the res to 1024/768. Here is an example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eR1Z_FC-L1U I think this is not a performanse issue.

Your card should at least be able to hand the game on medium/low settings. What you’re experiencing don’t really seem like a performance issue though. It seems that you don’t stutter unless you move. I experienced similar occurrences in the past with different games and they all turned out to be crack issues. Are you running a pirated version of the game? Maybe you should try a different crack if possible.

Asus generally makes upgradable laptops for gaming and the G series is made for gaming. His laptop should run the game fine, but I’m guessing it’s a heat issue. That’s the problem with laptops, they gather dust more easily and are more prone to overheating due to the confined spaces within the laptop. I can almost guarantee that it’s a heating issue if his frames are fine but get worse as he plays. Also, I agree that using Fraps will indeed slow your frames, so don’t do that, but if you can maybe updating the game would also help. I would first try to clean the system out with an air compressor first. You’ll have to take it apart to do so in order to get the dust to blow out properly.
Answer #14
Firt off all, thank you for everyone that is helping.
I’m almost sure that the problem is the temperature. The fps decreases when the gforce reaches 95C. I tested to run the game in a room with a really low temperature (14C) and it helped to reduce the computer temperature a little, so the game worked fire for a longer period.
Today i’ll try to open the laptop and clen it, and also change the crack.
Hope it works!
Thank everyone

@saioke
With my graphics i can play at 1024/768 on Ultra high exept textures they are on high.
And i can play for a minute or so at 40/60Fps but after that it drops to 2/7Fps.
And i belive you are corect about the bad crack. But i already deinstaled the game.
@rafair sorry for spaming

My system spec is:
Intel DG33B
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 Ghz
3 GB RAM DDR-II
Windows 7 Ultimate N Edition x86
XFX Nvidia Geforce GT 240 – 1 GB – DDR-III
I am playing BF3 on Lowest settings with resolution 1680 x 1050 without any problem but I done followings first to get it work:
1) Updated Visual C++ to Latest Version
2) Updated DirectX to Latest Version
3) Install latest Graphic Card Driver 285.62 (147 MB) “Downloaded from xfxforce.com as I am register users”
4) Install Realtek HD Audio Driver R2.66
5) Turn-Off V-sync in Nvidia Panel and in game
6) Change rendering to “0” in Nvidia Panel
7) Lower all in game settings and off “ambient occ….” in game
Note: I noticed that with all the above, its still put load on system but game running smoothly and graphic is not too bad.
Waiting for new patch, which will help us to play with some high settings
I was playing Crysis 2 V 1.9 with High Texture & Graphic at Ultra Settings without any single problem
and just finished Rage with high settings without any problem.

HI everyone
For sure it’s not my laptop configuration. Pleose with lower config are running the game in better resolution then me.
So I opened my laptop and cleared it. I also put a fan near the exit of the hot air. It solved my problem! Now I run the game perfectly.
I noticed that the temperature of my GPU maintain approximately in 80C.
So, the real problem is that I had never used the GPU like in BF3. It’s temperature increases so much (98C) that it reduces the FPS to make it dont increase more. Cleaning the fans and the exits, and also putting a fan to help dissipate the heat, made my GPU decrease the temperature in 18C, so the game is now able to run in a good resolution and high FPS.
Thank everyone for your help!
Let’s play BF3!
