& i guess avg like (kaspersky, quick heal etc) can make system hang so !!
If he uses it only for internet browsing, you might as well install a lightweight Linux distribution (Lubuntu, Puppy Linux, etc.) and breathe some life into it without worrying about malwares and viruses.
Else, Avira is an AV that is light on resources.
You should seriously advise your cousin to buy a new PC!
Must be a real junk if it’s from the nineties, Time for an upgrade I’d say.
eset smart security v3.0.669 or v4.2.71
and
tnod user & password finder v1.4.1.0
I would recommend Avast! internet security for his old computer.Avast is a light and powerful antivirus system wich can work with 64mb of ram and 200mhz of CPU only!
What operating system does he have? Hopefully something that is still supported by Microsoft…
Use Avira, it’s light, good and free.

i have a PC worse than that. I recommend NOD32 v2/v3 or Avira
NOD32
Panda Cloud Antivirus is light, light as a feather according to their website. http://www.cloudantivirus.com/en/
Sounds good
I recommend eset
You should also consider installing Linux. Since it’s an old computer, it’s a good option for you.
One for vote for Avira.
Also advise you move to linux for a pc with such poor specs.
