Answer #1
nvidia hands down
Answer #2
It all depends on your processor as well I say.
If you use an ATI processor, get an AMD GPU.
If you use an Intel processor, get an Nvidia GPU.

That never made sense to me.

That’s not quite how it works, still amusing. Only reason you would check the CPU is to make sure its not going to bottleneck the GPU.
Most important thing is OS support, if you are on Linux, you really want to go nVidia. I recommend nVidia anyway over AMD, its a bit more in price, but overall worth it.
Answer #5
isn’t 3gb gpu better than 2gb gpu??

Its not all about RAM, there are so many other factors in play to judge solely by RAM.
But if you want more frame buffer, you need more RAM, especially at higher than standard resolutions…
Answer #7
what do you mean by frame buffer??
Answer #8
I think for Linux users, Nvidia is the ONLY option for a painless install + config
Answer #9
I doubt if this guy uses Linux at all. Its a wrong debate.

this is still a user preference..
on the red team they are really focus on games [more game support]
on the green team focus on games and other apps [cuda cores]
note: check on your cpu first.. Crysis 3 needs Quadcore to run smoothly
Answer #14
it actually depends on the resolution you’ll be playing.
What’s your monitor’s resolution?
If it’s 1080p, then go with amd 7950.
But if you intend to play at a lower res than 1080p, then 660ti wins.
Answer #15
the 7950 should blow the 660 out of the water.
Answer #16
the 7950 should blow the 660 out of the water.
it’s 660ti. 7950 won’t just blow it away.
Answer #17
They are both pretty good cards, and should both play the games that you want to play at a good rate of fps.
I’m actually quite surprised to see that the nVidia card is less expensive for a change. Usually it’s the other way round. With that being said though, most people tend to compare the 7950 to the 670… Not the 660Ti.
If money isn’t a problem for you then go for the 7950 – It would be better than the nVidia card… However if you want to save a bit of money then go with the nVidia card.
Like I said, both cards should be able to play those games with no issues. So it’s up to you whether you want to save the money or not.

Sorry mate but that is bollocks. I’ve got a AMD CPU and a nVidea GPU and they work fine together.
Answer #19
In this recent benchmark, Nvidia wins the race..

Having a higher GPU and memory speed could help
Answer #20
what do you mean by frame buffer??
graphics rendering = “frame buffer”
Answer #21
i had that zotac gtx 660ti 2GB on my PC too, with reasonable price and good performance i think its best choice, i played tomb raider with ultimate settings (eventhough sometimes it causing crash, if i turn tesselation on, but i cant wait for nvidia to release new driver to play it xD)
well, Nvidia has PhysX and AMD has TressFX, but more games supported by Nvidia than AMD IMO
Answer #22
AMD
Answer #23
Go for the 660ti. Nvidia has way better drivers as well. The extra 1GB of bandwidth on the AMD is only useful if your gonna run multiple monitors or very large displays, but even then the 660 will do fine. Overall I suggest you go with Nvidia. You won’t be disappointed.
Answer #24

it's 660ti. 7950 won't just blow it away.

true, i meant the TI version though. i looked online for fps charts etc see what did better in most games. but seems found a more updated list so my theory is irrelevant now
@op i would get whichever really. you probably woudnt notice much difference in fps unless you have top-of-the range hardware.
however
3 of my mates got a 7950, all 3 was DOA. more then likely bad luck. they got refunded and 2 of them went for Nvidia 670.
Answer #25
AMD cards are powerful thats for sure, hell ALL the consoles use AMD cards rather than Nvidia.
But i have seen many vows related to AMD drivers, which is (present) but less in Nvidia.
And on the high end when you are using 3D technology, i frankly think Nvidia 3D, physX stuff is better than AMD.
On the Plus side for a change people has said that this Nvidia Card is cheaper than AMD one, its really strange but you should go for Nvidia than.
Also, AMD power consumption will be a little high if you have an Intel processor.
Nvidia Card with Intel Processors ensures better power consumption with Optimus Technology.

Drivers has never been a problem, if the gpu overheats and a component craps out at that particular point.
It will be a problem regardless of brand, gives a false driver crashing.

I want to share a bit, i was using HD 4850 crossfire before changing to nvidia. It has brand of Amaze (1st time i heard) and amazingly cheap. Actually its working goodnwhen playing games, but its totally pain in the ass while updating driver, when installing driver (usually the screen only flicker a bit and back on) the screen just go black and never come back. I have to manually disable the GPU 1st in safe mode then installing again, then enable again. I even contact amd support they and they never heard of the problem or anything like that. So its really brand problem, if u going amd go for HIS, POWERCOLOR, SAPPHIRE, and MSI. For nvidia im still trying this new piece, dont know much about it, we’ll see i think

Certain video cards, one being the 4800 series and modified PCB/cooler from the top of the line video cards suffer this problem. Its more like the Nvidia video card problem. Some guys have to reflow the chips.
Early Crossfire was problematic, its either card too old and lack of support. With newer cards, problem solved.

ahh, i see. Thank you for the clarification. I think I like nvidia more now, cause i think AMD has poor customer support.
Last think to note, Nvidia user gain more of the game because of the PhysX effect for some games, and still can use TressFX (AMD). While AMD cannot use the PhysX effect.

The Raedon seems to be better :

for gaming AMD
Answer #32
just wait for AMD 8000 series or NVIDIA 700 series as they are going to boost performance otherwise
how about a AMD 7790 crossfire or nvdia 650ti 2GB boost sli
these cards are new and are very good Image

crossfire and sli defeats 7970 boost edition in some games(tomb raider)
the only drawback is power consumption .it is very high .But you can expect very high gaming and good FPS they are almost at the same price as AMD7950 vaporx
Answer #33
did anyone click on his newegg links?
$319.99 vs $279.9 (at time of this post)
what he can afford is a big factor in his decision. But he didnt say what his budget is or was. Nvidia you get a bigger bang for the buck during the 12 months that I have noticed.
Answer #34
@
thanks for the good advice wow! it’s almost constant 40 fps in crysis 3 in very ultra settings
Is it good to crossfire or Sli. i heard many disadvantages
@
budget:300$-330$
should i wait for 8000series or 700 series??
nvidia is becoming cheaper and having good performance the latest nvidia 650 ti boost is a very good one
