200mbps fiber internet on 100mbps lan/ethernet card?

January 28th, 2020

I have upgraded our internet connection to 200mbps fiber optic internet but our lan/ethernet/NIC card is 100mbps only. My question is does the 200mbps still goes through my computer in using the internet even if my lan card is 100mbps only?
I tried to speedtest and it says 96mbps only. Do i need to upgrade my lan card to gigabit to benefit the 200mbps internet or not?

Answer #1
Yes, You need to upgrade lan card. OR you will get maximum 100 mbps through your connection.

OR You can buy a WIFI LAN Network Card Adapter

Do a research online before buying them.
Answer #2
Yes, buy a Gigabit Network Adapter card, available for PCI or PCIe slots.
Something about it here..

And best use a cat5e or cat6 ethernet cable.
Forget about wi fi for your main PC.
The speeds that get quoted are really just theoretical, and affected by a lot of factors !
