Total cost is about $1300. I don’t need a monitor.
I’ll admit, I may be going overboard on the processor, could probably go with a high end Core 2 Quad and have sufficient results, however, like I said, I’d like to be able to make this last as long as possible.
Any areas I should take away from or add to?
And you say that’s not for gaming? That’s a pretty serious rig you got there.

Thats what i was thinking. the only diffrence between this becoming a gaminging computer is….nothing. Well maybe the graphics card.
A better system for that budget, I dont think so.
The system is already extremely good, although, the video card is a bit, too low end for the extremely high end system , but, it wont matter since you say you wont game at all.
the only problem with going for a cheaper video card is that as new software is released you will be farther and farther behind in that area. so maybe buy a better video card later. but you have put together a really nice rig there.
and don’t drop the quad core. having that will ensure you are still good to go in the future.
All that for 1300? ~love~. That’s a bargain.
Nice setup overall. I would just change the hd’s to western digital caviar blacks. You can just buy a video card later if you change your mind about gaming.
that drives a hard bargain! but is this for gaming?
They had stated in the 1st post it was not.
All good other than the GFX, how about a 4890 or GTX 260?

Like I said, this won’t be for gaming, so I don’t see a need to pay more than 4x the amount for a GPU than the one I have already selected.
Everyone else: Yes, I suppose other than the graphics card it does seem like a gaming rig, however I just want to invest in a computer that will last me for a while to do what I need to do (video encoding, basic archiving, web browsing, etc.) as fast as possible.
Any other opinions?

As fast as possible you say? That ~love~’s going to be pretty fast.
