Can you quantitatively compare these two processors?
August 5th, 2016
I want to compare my current processor with the one I’m looking to get
Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor T2080 (1M Cache, 1.73 GHz, 533 MHz FSB
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=29740
vs
Intel Core2 Duo Processor P8600 (3M Cache, 2.40 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=35568
Thanks!

Intel Core2 DUO Processor P8600 is of a newer technology vs DUAL & runs cooler.. It has a larger cache= 3 times more cache =more=Speed. The clock speed of the Processor P8600 is 2.4Ghz vs 1.73 GHz and cpu P8600 is much faster. The FSB / Front Side Bus is 1066MHz vs the slower 533MHz. At the bus position It can process a greater amount of data at a quicker speed=note the numbers (1066FSB / 533FSB). If “cpu” w/533FSB was used on a “MBoard” having a 1066FSB” you would only be using about 1/2 of that Mboards capability. Vise versa would result if the cpu had the greater FSB & the Mboard had a much less FSB then the capability of the cpu would be greatly reduced. There would be a good bit of difference between the two cpus. I would not venture to say: 2x more or 3x more or 4x more etc. Your Choice of motherboard is very important. Its Components-Ability-Capability & FSB will determine the ability of the cpu. A “M.Board with a FSB w/533” will force the cpu to run at 1/2 of its capability if the Processor P8600 w/ its 1066FSB is used. Key considerations are the type of ram used: Timings, Latency & the Amount of ram installed. The Graphics Card installed is Very important & will affect speed & quality. Key points: (Amt of Ram on the card/ its timings speed), AGP card or PCIe card, the bit rate, Memory Clock, Core Clock. If the video-graphics are Integrated Graphics your pc will be much reduced vs the pc having its own graphics card=Much faster & Much better quality. ALSO; How everything is set up will make a big difference in how the entire pc functions. This includes your hardware, OS software settings, BIOs settings & installed tweaks. All components need to work together for the ultimate result. A well chosen motherboard=(the foundation) is critical.
Finally– the Processor P8600-2.4Ghz should be a happier result vs the 1.73GHz processor.

Thanks I’m goin for it.
yeah the core 2 is far superior to the dual core like said
your mobo might effect how much you will gain, but you will deff gain something with the P8600
they use diff sockets (socket M and P)
Socket M (667FSB) Merom v. Socket P (800FSB) Merom
but the layout is the same (478-pin micro FC-PGA)
so the P8600 might work, but slower than spec if you have the “Socket M (667FSB) Merom ”
Not sure what to look for but this is the computer with the p8600 on it

Also a point to know that the newer P8600 and other Centrino 2 chips also consumes less battery life.

Grr I hate how this website will redirect me to an ad on the same page, it just erased everything I had written!
Anyway this is what I have NOW, a slowly dying Inspiron E1505

You might want to check this page if you are using Firefox browser. My post is 3rd from the bottom. The small add-on has done a great job for me. Here> http://www.google.com?t=2588188&start=15
Also: I added some additional info to my post above which my be of benefit.

The intel core 2 duo is much better then the pentium

I use IE8..
Is anyone able to quantitatively say whether or not I’d get “2x more performance” etc or anything like that? Any benchmarks?
the mobo you have is the older 945PM chipset
googled my butt off but can find nothing on if the P8600 will even work with it
diff CPU voltages (1.25 vs 1.3) and FSB but at the most looks like maybe a 15-20% gain, maybe
Any benchmarks?
none that I can find
a T8300 might be a better choice with a 12 multiplier but the FSB is 800 and the 945 only supports 667
so it looks like the T8300(800FSB) or the P8600(1066FSB) will only run at 667FSB degrading performance
I’m not swapping video cards on to my existing laptop I’m getting a new laptop
I'm not swapping video cards
you mean CPU
thot you were comparing CPU’s but your comparing lappies with diff hardware
the p8600 lappy may not be twice as fast but it’s probably close because other hardware is also faster
I know.. I’m not swapping CPUs I mean. They’re two different laptops
