Logitech Z506 5.1 Speaker Problems
August 5th, 2016
Here are the issues:
1. When I put my ear close to each of the 5 speakers I hear what can best be described as feedback. That can’t be normal right?
2. When I actually play a song (or any sound) only the 2 front speakers work clearly. The other 3 sound like a distant radio station crippled by static/feedback… absolutely horrible.
3. There’s an icon in my taskbar which seems to be another volume control. However, it doesn’t appear to do anything and when I double click it I get the following error message:
“The audio device supported by this application is not detected. The application will now exit.”
4. When I plug my headphones into my PC tower (front jack), it doesn’t work. Is that normal?
UPDATE: Even without the speakers plugged into the computer, each speaker still has that horrible static/feedback sound. Could it be the speakers themselves?
Any help, ideas or wisdom would be appreciated.
Cheers
Most songs have stereo (2 channel audio) and not 5. If you head anything on the other 3 it’s probably because you have speaker fill turned on.
Are you sure you have your audio drivers/software installed?
Damn man same problem
I have the z5500’s and only 2 speakers work!!! so annoying lol.
I’ve had 5.1 speakers before and know for a fact that I’ve had music going through all 5 speakers.
And in regards to the drivers I’m pretty sure everything installed correctly.
I didn’t say all music was 2 channel, I said most. I also said that if you turn on speaker fill, you’ll hear audio through all 5 speakers.
Ohok, fair point. How and where do you turn on speaker fill?
Not sure how to do it with your sound card, but with the built in audio I have on my motherboard there is just a box to check if I want speaker fill on or off.
The problem is with your Creative Sound Blaster card
I had that problem too
here is what you should do (worked for me):
first install latest software updates using Creative Software AutoUpdate
now I don’t know if your drives options looks like my but try to do next
open your driver options, go to X-Fi CMSS-3D, press Surround, set upmix mode to Stereo Surround (instead of Xpand) and set stereo environment to 75-80%
you should hear sound coming from all 5 speakers (even with songs of whatever)
I’ve decided to just take the easy way out and get a refund… I don’t have a problem with using headphones, so I guess I’ll just stick to them. Thanks anyway guys.
If your buying new speakers, You can pick up Z-10 2.0 speakers for fairly cheap I brought mine of ebuyer for 50 best speakers Ive had. LCD touch screen look pretty neat. lol my prevouis set was Logitech x-120
Before: (Lasted a good 15years) was still working when I threw them out
Now:
Lcd display support for different media players are limited, you can download plug-ins and such I’m using 1 for foobar2000 also supports gaming stats
Lcd screen does tend to make the speaker hot

You should consider buying a new 30-40 USD audio card.
Don’t throw away a capable speaker system because of a crappy audio card.
