Broekn aerial on a Radio

My stupid mum has broken my aerial off if my Dynamo (wind-up) and Battery powered radio costing �25. I need a way to fix it, I was thinking of putting some steel there or tin, there to make a new one. Or does an aerial contain something special, if I put steel there will it be a crappy signal?
