What are these files ? any idea ? ( 2.5 GB + approx )
January 31st, 2020
was just browsing my hdd and saw these in an old folder
$MFT – 5 MB ( no file extension )
$LogFile – 64 MB ( no file extension )
hiberfil.sys – 2.49 GB ( looks like hibernation backup , but why in D drive anyways ? )
$MFTMirr – 4 KB ( no file extension )
any idea guys ?
PS: all were in D drive and in a same folder
look here:

from what I read, the size of the hiberfil.sys is the same size as your RAM, so im guessing you have 2-3 GB RAM…
$MFT is the master file table – contains all info about all directories and files.
$MFTMirr is a mirror of the first four files of $MFT (kinda backup)
$LogFile is just a log I’m guessing of all you do
EDIT:
A quick Google found this:

thanks for the replies mate.
but I don’t have hibernation enabled, then why that hiberfil file there
should I delete these files anyways ?
if you have it disabled, it should be fine to delete the hiberfil.sys file…
In general, it’s not a good idea to try to delete system files.

very true, but we know what the file is and does…

No you should not! You could create a corrupt disk! Leave them there.

That’s irrelevant. Most likely it will just be created again once deleted.
ahhhrrrrrgggghhhhhhh , this is the only one of those similar reasons I hate XP for…. ( or may be blame the ntfs system etc ) dunnoo….baah…but
I am damned , I am doomed, I am blaamed I am bloomed
looks like I will get all my data off this drive , format it to low level and start fresh to get rid of this 2.5 GB crap!
thanks for replies guys.
I really was lazy and dumb atm to look into google for this.
you should fet Win7 eventually, you wont regret it, since you have XP, you might have compatibility issues with drivers…
You can delete “hiberfil.sys” without any problem.
I’m deleting it too, and disabled hibernate for get more hard space.
But other file is better to exist, and don’t delete it.
deleted both n lol no issues
