Really bad fps in CS:S and no idea why

January 22nd, 2020

I used to get 150fps on CSS but now i get like 30-40 max
My system is:
AMD x2 4400+ 2.2ghz dual core
Inno3D 8800GT 512mb 2GB of ram That’s basically all you need to know – oh it runs at 1280×1024 but it didn’t use to be bad at that… :S
And it’s like mostly on low settings and still does that

Answer #1
30-40 is actually quite good …
Answer #2
Well yea but i’m really annoyed as i used to get 150+ you know it’s more i wanna know what happend.
Answer #3
It might be that you installed somthing, and it is running in the background taking up your system proformance…
Answer #4
In other games i get my usual fps though… P.S. hi .
Answer #5
It may be to many different factors such as background processors and programs, usage of memory, CPU Temps, graphical tweaks etc. To be honest I do not believe you got 150fps – 30-40fps is nowhere near “really bad” so stop complaining and be content with it.
Answer #6
Well actually 150fps is common on Counterstrike source as it’s really old…
Answer #7
Maybe a driver problem ?
Get the latest driver from here http://www.nvidia.com/Download/betadrivers.aspx?lang=en-us
Hope it works !!!

Try setting your Graphic settings on Medium (in-game) and also Update your Drivers, check what’s your directX level in-game and change it lower. To change it, open your game, open console and type mat_dxlevel (80, 70, 60) one of those (Lowest number “60” is lowest Graphics).
Next you can edit your Graphic Card settings through the control panel, if you have a NVIDIA card you should have the icon in the task bar. Once you have opened the Control Panel for your Graphics card click on “Manage 3D Settings” then you can read the descriptions of each setting and change them to suite your System.
Next you can download a custom config for your game to lower certain aspects and improve performance and boost your FPS, to download and use it please visit this link (http://www.overclock.net/pc-games/184161-counter-strike-source-fps-config.html), read the instruction on the web page and download the file.
General Tips:
Disk Cleanup your System – Click Start, Click My Computer, Right click on your Drive (default is C, Click Properties and then click the Disk Cleanup button and then just follow it through.
Defrag your System – Follow the same steps but do NOT click the Disk Cleanup button, click the “Tools” Tab, Click Defragment Now, Click Analyze, then wait for a window to pop up and then click Defragment.
