harddrive

You’re missing the point. The thing you are referring to is not the C drive, it’s merely a partition. And yes, you basically need to take out the Hard drive and replace it into the new computer. Don’t format it though
Good luck mate ^_^
whats formating?
and im planning on buying a new computer. so just buy everything needed without a harddrive and take out the harddrive from this computer and add it to the other and all my files/music/movies are going to be transfered there?
Hmmm, I think I know where you’re going. If you really want to keep the old hard drive instead of getting a new one as well you might want to check this guide out. It should help you understand how to use the OS on the old hard drive after switching computers:
http://www.theeldergeek.com/move_harddrive.htm
And yes, it will also help you retain your music.
Good luck mate ^_^
ty, but dam it’s too confusing. ill just use this computer for music/video/and picuters even though my zune program is slow
and when i get a new one, ill use that for games.
It’s always your choice mate. Good luck
Yes it will be much easier if you get a new hard drive with the new computer….Because it really is best to clean install the Windows from scratch on a new installation !…Also your games and apps need to be reinstalled on it too..
You could then take your old hard drive and add it to the new PC as a second drive..You would have your music and video then and the rest of the stuff you could delete to have more room
I think this thread got off to a side track – Mr Coolness, if you intend to buy a new computer (presumably better computer) (and its not a custom build), you would buy one with a hard drive – a faster, bigger one.
On to this new hard drive you would simply transfer the files from your old computer to the new one. Unless you wanted to have additional hard drives (or the hard drive in your new computer was worse), you would not NEED to move your actual hard drive.
There are many many programs available to back up and transfer your files and settings from one computer to another.
depending on the size of all your files you could burn them to dvd or upload them to a site, which is a simpler but probably longer way
if i have all my music and stuff on my "c drive" does that mean if i get a new computer and i want to move my fiiles, i just take out hte c drive from my computer and add it the new one?
if u got already ur new pc, simply transfer ur file through network. You need to buy UTP Cable w/RJ45 in both ends
its very simple
use black dvds or a cheap flash drive
or
if your not going to keep the old computer and don’t dual boot and if you using xp just use Partition Magic 8.05 to resize the c drive say you have an 80GB and say you used 43GB leave 3GB free on your c drive and then make a partition for 34GB.Then copy & paste your video, music to the 34GB partition. As soon as you get your computer take out the old one and place it into your new one i think it will change that to a different drive letter because it will already be a c drive.if you will need to change that drive letter in the administrator tools. Then resize your 34GB to the full drive size.
Should buy yourself a cheap external harddrive, always come in handy for keeping backups and for storing extra music, films, pictures etc.
