August 7th, 2016

Intel Core153 i7 Processor 920 (2,66 GHz, 8 MB cache, 4,8 GT/sec.)
Windows 7 – 64BIT
3 year Next Business Day Hardware Support
Single 1.5GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480
2 TB, duale harde schijf, RAID 0 “Stripe” (2 x 1 TB – 7.200 rpm)
6 GB 1.333 MHz (3 x 2 GB) Tri Channel-memory
Blu-Ray Disc-rom-combinationstation (Blu-ray read only , cd/dvd read and write)
Integrated HDA 7.1 Dolby Digital Audio
Alienware 19-in-1 Media card reader
I need some help with the memory, 6GB tri channel.
I can choose between 3gb, 6gb, 9gb, 12 or 24, but the last 2 are too expensive
So is 6GB enough, i think its enough, and i also have this amazing GTX480 so…
this is for the price of 2000 , dad pays with his company so he wants a pre built or i have to pay by myself, no build yourself etc.
I know i can get this for 1500 in the USA but dad pays so it doesn’t matter.

Answer #1
Holy ~love~ that’s a lot for that build…you could put that together yourself for $1200 in the US…that’s like 850.
Answer #2
i gotta agree with prozac on this one..you could build this for much less
Answer #3
i know, but we have 230V ~50hz etc, i know its much BUT IT DOESNT MATTER
please no price issues, i need help with the memory
Answer #4
If money is no issue then why not get the max available?
Answer #5
ok its no big issue, a max of 2000 and this is 1999.45
Answer #6
lol
I’m very confused. If you can spend 2k at the maximum, and you’re at the maximum…there’s no wiggle room. Your question makes no sense.
Answer #7
okay then : but what about the memory: 3x2GB, is it enough? i think so because we have a 3y old quad core (4gb) and is fast enough
Answer #8
6 gigs of ram is plenty you probably wont need more than four. I have 9 gigs installed and barely use more than 4 so its kinda an overkill but I like to be prepared for when I may need 9.
Answer #9
Looks pretty good. Don’t worry about the guys above. It’s pretty obvious prices are a lot higher where you live

you are getting a great system. Aurora? Kick ass.
The biggest mistake you will do to yourself is order the RAM with the system.
Dell/Alienware will send you mixed brands, value brand-kingston, Hynix Semiconductor, or ELPIDA. I think they use the cheapest cost and will stick them in that kick ass system. I ordered the minimum of 3 1GB’s, started poking around and was ticked off they sent me 2 from one brand and the 3rd one from another brand. I called and complained. Then they sent replacements from 2 different states and I ended up with 6 1GB’s from 3 different brands.
I only ordered what came with the aurora and shopped for decent RAM at the 1600 speed. I ended up with 6GB’s from Corsair and a lower price than the upgrade.
That was my smartest decision on the aurora.
Now, thanks for Dell’s shipping mistake, I have 9 1GB sticks sitting in a box.
Waiting 30 days to see if they want the extra sticks back then I will sell all 9.
I advise you to pass on the RAM, buy the good stuff later at lower cost than what they will sell cheap ram for.
note: I think the 930 is overclocked at 3.36, you might check that out.
Here is what the grapic card will look like in the most recent game releases

Wow! looks awesome! And thanks so much for your reply!
We will order by phone, so we get few % off, and we dont have to pay the taxes. I’ll try to convince the guy to put no RAM in it so i can buy it myself.
Thanks!

Hynix and ELPIDA and Kingston make all the high end memory too. Just because the memory brand is OCZ or Mushkin or Corsair doesn’t mean they make the memory. Yeah but you do make a point that they put in very generic crap into them. Fwiw nothing touches the Elpida’s atm
note: I think the 930 is overclocked at 3.36, you might check that out.A very simple overclock one could do by themselves in a couple of seconds
Answer #13
Can’t you just goto a reputable computer store , pick out the components and pay the store to build it?
Answer #14

I Agree With Prozac…
get the Max Available…

yeah, but overclocking makes more heat, but its liquid cooled i think so no problem. But i wanted the gtx 480 in an xps 8100 (9100 wont come in europe for the next months and thats why i have to buy aurora) and they couldnt put the 480 in it because of the heat and the power supply >.<

Lol Alienware’s water cooling loops are a joke. Have you seen the inside of one of those? Water cooling is only good if done correctly. I bet even a high end air cooler out performs their wc
Answer #17
i dont know anything about water cooling but i think it will suffice because we had problems with our older dell pcs, 6y old and 9y old , and something got broken because of the heat, 3 times.
No problem with our 3y old xps 420, 4gb ram, GEforce 8800 gts, actually still enough
Answer #18
Alienware’s notebooks are priced alright but you’re just paying for the brand label with their desktops. But yeah if that’s what you want I can’t stop you
Answer #19
other question: is 4x2GB better then 3x2GB triple channel?
Answer #20
Triple channel is only faster in synthetic benchmarks.
Answer #21
I’m not sure to choose between the alienware aurora, with i7 920 processor, 3x2GB memory and nvidia GTX480 <-> xps8100: i7 860 – 4x2gb memory and nvidia gtx 460
Answer #22
The video card on the Aurora is far superior
Answer #23
and what about the memory, the aurora costs about 500 more but i looked for the price of the gtx480 and the card itself costs 450
Answer #24
You probably wont use even 4 gigs of memory yet alone 6 or 8. I’ve had 6 gigs for around a year and a half and I’ve never reached 4GB but that depends on what you do with your computer. If you run a bunch of VMs and do intensive graphical work (not gaming) you might need some more memory

your system (aurora) will be room temp inside the case 77-80 degrees, idle or heavy load. Playing games or not playing games, room temp
Have you thought about Solid State Drive for your system. they are not cheap, but after you get that kick ass system, your weakest link is the standard hard drive. back to the RAM, the speeds they sent me (9 1GB’s) were 9’s for the speeds. What I ended up buying was the 7’s at link here when it was on the “1 day sale”. (you will have plenty of choices) I got plenty of help here at this forum on my decision to buy this ram thanks again
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145286
the install was perfect for this RAM, the BIOS recognized the speeds, volts, and the lacency. I didnt have to change a setting.
and what about the memory, the aurora costs about 500 more but i looked for the price of the gtx480 and the card itself costs 450
look again at that aurora. Aurora is the “base” system, then the models of alienware go up in price from the Aurora.
I'm not sure to choose between the alienware aurora, with i7 920 processor, 3x2GB memory and nvidia GTX480 <-> xps8100: i7 860 - 4x2gb memory and nvidia gtx 460
can you post a link to your “configuration” page so that others can see what options you have in selecting your parts?
the aurora maybe my last system I buy because of the ability to upgrade in the future the way the system layout. I looked at XPS systems, but not much room to grow in those cases. If you decide on XPS, you have a limit of what you can do. The case of the aurora you can expand. If you need lower cost, and still a kick ass system, get XPS

the minimum ram shipped is 3 1GB’s. I dont think you can get it shipped without ram, they can not test the system, etc.
What dell will do, is try to fill up your ram slots. Like I said earlier, get decent/higher speed/ RAM for less.
Answer #26
if your going have 2k why not build one. doesnt make sence really.
Answer #27
if your going have 2k why not build one. doesnt make sence really.dad is buying, that is why

Overclockers in the uk will let you pick and they will build top notch systems also
Answer #29
Dutch website, so it had to be translated, and we get some %’s of because its our 4th dell pc (this price is without taxes as my dad pays)

and , little question for you, I have a sims 2 topic with all expansions, i was on rapidshare for about 9 months, reuploaded 6 times , got tired of rs, and now i’m on FS but my files are deleted already. Does it happen to you too, and are you uploading non stop then? Anyways, i cant upload because all my files were on my pc which’s motherboard is broken
Answer #30
pc will be ordered tomorrow if im lucky, so the choice is here
and how about the liquid cooling, how long does it last?
Image
Answer #31
Alienware uses an Asetek closed loop for it’s WC and it only cools the CPU with a 120mm rad (very similar to the Corsair and CoolIt units). I’m not really sure. It’s a closed loop and you can’t maintain it. It will either keep on working or just die one day, probably long after the warranty runs out and you’ll need to buy a new cooler. The liquid cooling they use is a joke and you could outperform it with a decent air cooler
Answer #32
hmm okay, but i like the liquid thing because my room gets 28C just because of the air cooler
and d r e a m, your image seems to change color a lot ?
Answer #33
No SSD?
Answer #34
hmm okay, but i like the liquid thing because my room gets 28C just because of the air cooler
Liquid cooling doesn’t make heat disappear. All heat is radiated into the surrounding air just like air cooling.
and d r e a m, your image seems to change color a lot ?Indeed
Answer #35
I’m not buying those at dell, a 512 GB is 900

Make sure he deducts the prize when he takes of the RAM’s
And you don’t need more then 6 GB RAM.
