Alternative to Windows Media Centre in XP

I am lookign a for a very good media centre for XP. I currently have a HP DV6910ea laptop (vista installed) that come with a little remote control so I can be a lazy ass and not be bothered to get out of bed and browse my media. I want to downgrade to XP from vista, but it means I will lose the windows media centre (WMC) and I have tried several other alternative media centres.
The problem is I need to find a good media centre that I can change the key commands within the alternative media centre so that I may use my hp remote in the same way as I did for the WMC,as currently with the other ones not all my remote buttons work, which suck.
Does anyone know of a very good media centre where I can change the keyboard commands/settings, that has the same functions as WMC?

ummm my dell xps came with a remote im guessing its the same as yours .. its tiny and goes inside a slot in the lap top … if thats what your talking about .. then i don’t see why windows media player 11 doesn’t work or i tunes as they work with my remote .. even lime wire works with my remote after installing a mod into its coding .. but other then that i have no clue .. try Google. its your best friend .. just try them all out and see what works .. sorry i couldn’t help tot much =[

finding the correct plugin to read your remote will be the biggest problem

Thanks for the help guys, will take a look at them.
I think I have found what I am looking for with media portal. In the configuration bit I can redife the keys, and I found out, if I press my remote button, it logs that instead the button instead Well happy now. It is still not perfect, but with the above mentioned it is moving very much so in the right way

well yes and no.. but in order for it to function properly you need to have it install when you install the OS.
