external hd help

I just reinstalled xp, and now when i try to plug in my external harddrive it doesnt say anything. I can hear the chime when i plug it in, but nothing pops up. I have SP2, and all my USB drivers.

have you gone into my computer and seen if it has shown up in there?
also try some other USB ports

Have you tried going to control pannel >> add hardware >> search for new hardware connected

It is not showing up in my computer, and i have tried every usb port.
and i tried that too, and its still not working. i think im missing a Generic USB driver, but i cant find it.

nm, i got it. this stupid thing needs the power. all other ones i seen dont need them. wow. thanks guys.

Search the model of ur external HD on google for latest drivers for it. Go to control pannel > Administrative tools > Computer management > device manager > disk drives see if it’s showing up there?
