!HELP! external 3tb showing up as RAW
June 9th, 2023
help pls. thanks.
i have a 4tb western digital external hdd.
Use file scavenger:

Do a long scan and choose NO when it asks if to look for deleted files (as it’s technically
a file system corruption) the rest is fairly obvious. Judging by your post, I’d say you
already know that your suppose to recover the data to another HDD. Goodluck!
And after your done, Better use HDS to check on the HDDs health:

Do keep in mind tho that a drop can lead to unpredictable consequences!
I accidentally dropped one too once (it was a vertical standing enclosure) and despite the SMART status being perfect, It died of a head crash the very next day!
Better keep backup from now on, And do yourself a favor, AVOID vertical ones, They’re
much more prone to accidental drops IMO. I highly doubt your cat would’ve managed
to drop it if it was sitting in a standard (horizontal) enclosure!
thanks very much for your help
That or better avoid externals period because stories like this are ten a penny. Keep drives in a computer case or network enclosure somewhere cold.
They’re delicate enough to begin with.
That or better avoid externals period.
Could have stopped there. That nailed it.
If you see an external available for dirt cheap, you can also take it out of the enclosure and put it into an HDD slot inside your computer as well.
Also if your trollcat makes a habit of doing this have a spray bottle armed on laser mode so it learns not to go around there.
And for goodness sake get some earthquake putty for anything high up that is expensive and you’d rather not have fall down and get smashed.
