I would recommend you dual boot, and install windows 8 OS, rather than upgrade it from windows 7 to 8. Clean install is always recommended over upgrade because it does not leave behind any traces of old files and take up space. Also using virtual pc to test the OS full performance will not be as smooth, as trying out the OS on a separate partition. Be open to learn & experiment with windows 8. Their are plenty of new features, that enhance the performance and security. Also If you prefer to use windows 7 start menu, you can simply use software “Start8” from here: www.stardock.com/products/start8/
