Suggest me a Audio/Video Recorder for webcam recording

August 6th, 2016

I want to record proceedings in a class using webcam and also want to record audio using mic. Main purpose is record them for future analysis. Please suggest me software (free will suit more but any suggestion is welcome).
It should save in small size high quality (web cam will be of higher quality of course). If can upload on ftp or somewhere else like cloud boxes, etc will be a bonus.
Please ask if you need more info.

Give this app a go:

And just a word of advice, You’d be best using a 3rd party webcam for this
task rather than the integrated. With the integrated, You’ll have to flip the laptop
to the other side, Then make sure the viewing angle is okay and start recording, So it’s
just not very ideal. With a 3rd party webcam, You could just place it on top of the screen facing
the other way, Which would be best really as you’ll be able to set the angle & start recording without fiddling with it from the other side! So you could just do all that while sitting down.

Yeah an external Webcam will be used because most Desktop don’t have built in ones and we might be mounting webcam on wall or some higher position.
Answer #3
Oh, So your saying your some kinda Professor/Teacher and wanna record your own classes?
I thought you were just a student!
Anyways, Webcams are best suited for close-contact, They aren’t that great at picking up
objects from a distance, So peoples faces might seem a bit blurry, Especially when they move their head! (But it should be fairly okay if it’s a small room) do keep in mind however that USB has a maximal cable length of 5 meters (As-is) and 25 meters in total (When a powered hub is used after each 5M)
If it’s a very large room, A surveillance cam will be better suited.
Logitech & Microsoft are the best webcam brands btw.
Edit: I just realized that I made too many assumptions on this matter.
Do clarify, You wanna record just yourself or the entire room?
Answer #4
Entire room will be recorded but 25 people will be sitting nearby and not in a long class. But I am more like an organiser, teaching will be done by another party, we need footage of that class and see who is present and what is being teached so that no fake classes can be arranged. We will also use skype for online on the spot interviewing.
I am part of IT team who has to see whether the above task are technically possible or not. So I am doing testing all software which can do the job.
Answer #5
Do you have a particular budget for this task?
Is wireless connectivity available on the location?
From what country are you from?
A security camera will give you better quality footage overall, And it’s not hard
to set one up! You don’t need a DVR or fiddle with wiring, There are plenty
of reasonably priced Wireless/Ethernet ones which are easy to set up!
For Skype, Just use a webcam.

Techsmith Camtasia is the industry standard, i highly recommend! Having been used by professional in education or for home users for creating video tutorial etc….It is very easy to use and edit video. It supports multiple format and can upload to ftp.

What is available is a PC, Internet upto 512kbps, 1MBPS or may be more using a usb device (3g service).
We have two tasks to perform. get recordings from institutes where classes will be going on and take live interview of students.
Now web cam and mic with headphones) will do for interviewing purposes, but yes we have small budget so webcam is what we have to work with a they are cheaper and easy to install. We will be recording 2-3 months classes 2 hours each, 5 days a week. Wireless not available.
India is place where I am.
Main purpose is monitoring the class online as well as get recording from class to analyse if needs arises. but yes with cheaper budget and as cheap as possible because the classes going on will be for lower segments of society.

Could you be more specific about your budget?
While webcams are indeed cheaper, There are plenty of affordable security
cams in the $50-90 range. And as said before, They’d give you a clearer image
as they’re made to cover a large area while webcams aren’t. Amateur grade
security cams are not difficult to install at all, It’s mostly just plug and play (Power & Ethernet) you could also mount it on the wall with screws. You just have to add a secondary Ethernet card to the PC your gonna be using (And those are cheap enough!) then you just install the software that came with it and it’s easy as pie from there. You could also install wire ducts on the wall to cover up the wires in order to make it a little more tamper proof, But that’s optional.

The biggest security issue will be if someone stoles the hardware. No the institute holder will not be paying more 40-50$. they are forced to employ these cameras by our institute (which certifies their students) cos we want to improve quality of programmes. They will have to pay themselves to buy these product which they naturally don’t want as it will reduce their income.
The app you suggested above is working fine but if I can get some other will can provide more formats option like avi and MP4 it will nice otherwise I will forward the above one to my superior.
My first test told me that if we don’t move the camera much it can do good job. Professor can use mic to record audio while teaching. However quality and size of video are still of concern we want quality to be high and video to be as small as possible cos only then we can recieve them online. Current size 2.5 times (or little less) in MB of recording time at 640*480 resolution. i.e. if recording is of 40 min size will be 100MB.

XSplit is a complete recording and broadcasting solution. You will be able to record any part, of any screen, and arrange it any way you like. The video is compressed as it records so there is no need for re-encoding after your done. Furthermore, if your upload bandwidth is sufficient, you can record directly to a streaming/hosting site that will not only allow people to watch you live, if you choose, but host your file for you as well; eliminating the need for re-encoding and uploading. The second your done recording, your video is already encoded, uploaded and ready to be shared.
If you do post editing, this is not the best option because the video is already compressed.
