DVD to .mkv, xvid and avi question

I have an old movie on a dvd that Id like to conver to a playable movie file such as mkv, vid or avi, whats software do I need?? Never bothered with anything like this before. Thank in advance guys

avs video converter seem to be the best

I think dvdfab can save them, but never tried. Or try handbrake.

….Or you could use some professional software like Sorenson Squeeze or Promedia Carbon.
AVC/AAC is your friend
