Mkv to Xvid?
August 7th, 2016
MKV is a container format that can have several audio, video and sub files inside. the free programs mkvtoolnix, mediainfo and mkvextractor will allow you to work with (toolnix) view info (mediainfo) and extract (mkvextractor). If the mkv is already in xvid form, mediainfo will tell you. Then you can extract the files and remux them with something like virtualdub. If not in xvid form you can still convert the video to xvid and remux with the audio. If the video plays but no audio your tv may not be able to handle the audio and it would have to be converted too.
For a basic all in one solution try avidemux its also free but doesn’t see subtitles so if you want them you still need to extract (mkvtoolnix with the mkvextractgui placed in the directory) then name the sub to match the xvid file.
Freemake Video Converter is easy…
Select ‘AVI’ output and then pick TV or DVD quality.. then it should show that it will use Xvid and mp3.

When you install it., if it gives you options, pick ‘Custom’..
This way you can reject any Toolbars and such crap.
Thanks guys,.
