Fixing My Modded PS3

I have a modded ps3 i bought from a friend, but i wan’t to play online with the new twisted metal, do i just update my ps3 to the latest firmware?
sorry if this is the wrong section, i can’t find a more proper one then this.

Not too sure if it works the same way, But i think if you just update it then it should still work online?

you mean if i download a modded online and install it i should be able to have a modded ps3 and still play online?
