Which is better core i3 530 or core 2 quad Q9400?

November 13th, 2013

I’m planning to buy a new pc these days and, I’m wondering which is better core i3 530 or core 2 quad Q9400. Besides that, is Nvidia 220 Gt better than Radeon 5570 or not? I really want to build a competitive gaming sytem. Please help me decide. Thanks!

Depends.
Quad is better with applications and processes that take advantage of all cores. Such as graphics rendering, video creation, etc.
Since you’re looking to stick with gaming, which can’t handle 4 processors yet, i3 is probably your best bet, for now.
You’re definitely going to want to go with radeon 5570 as well. One of the best cards on the market. Also, it’s by ATI – which are destroying nvidia in card performance at the moment.

Thanks for the information mate! I guess those will be my choices… Hahahaha!! Anyway, I can still upgrade it to i7 right cause it’s motherboard is compatible with i7, right??

You’re welcome!
Regarding motherboard compatibility, some motherboards aren’t actually compatible with i7 and i3. Some are. Depends on the manufacturer.
So if that’s something you want to upgrade to in the future, just be aware of that.

Ahhh.. so it depends… Really appreciate the info mate and your efforts.. Thank you so much!!

The two processors excel in different usage.. I’ll just stick in to core i3 anyway I’ll use it more on gaming than video creation and in other apps.. Anyway, core 2 quad maxes out only in 8gb while core i3 maxes out in 16gb, right?? Anyway, here’s the motherboard MSI H55M-E33… Thanks for the info guys!

The RAM limit should be the same between the chips, it’s just the chipsets that differ. ALWAYS look to the future. Even if the quad were a better choice I’d probably advise looking to the 1155 chips. They will be Intel’s standard for the next while. The new SandyBridge chips with the new boards will outperform the 775 equivalents quite handily. Heck, the top 1155 chip which costs $3-400 will outperform the previous 1366 speed champ in many test even though that chip costs 3 times as much. It’s a similar story in the lower speeds as well, though perhaps not as dramatic. 775 boards are on the way out, though still available.

It is a little weird when someone reply to a half-year-old topic, i think he already bought what he need, would you agree.
