Ziping vs raring

October 13th, 2013

Hi,
How come everyone rars their files instead of ziping them?
Is it a problem if you zip them?
Cheers

Answer #1
RAR = ZIP
Same ~love~ different pack…
Answer #2
Really not much difference. They both do the job.
Answer #3
Rar is the new one while zip is the old one and rar is also multi platform application so most of them use it
Answer #4
Maybe rar has better compression, and options like splitting, pass..i dont know what else.
Zip is standard and nobody likes standard, thats why.
Answer #5
Yeah, makes sense Dawe… I’ll prolly start combining rars/zips… I can zip remotely from work (on my NAS) and then upload with FTP… makes things much easier
Just hope it won’t affect my downloads
Answer #6
You shouldnt have problems.
Btw winrar provides recovery option, that could be useful. I do not know how it works tho. People write 5 percent recovery for example, but whats if another part is corrupted? Thats confusing to me.
Answer #7
Each part has its own 5% recovery bits.
Rar is about 25% better (smaller files) than zip. 7z is about 15%, sometimes more, better then rar. UHA is like 7z but old tech (well, not so much old as older, and i think it was designed by a cracker group specifically for ripped games).
Answer #8
An RAR is a girl. A ZIP is a guy. So if you’re a guy you go with an RAR unless you’re gay.
Answer #9

Answer #10

Wow!!!

oh… hang on… they might be gays too… bugger…
