YouTube not working in Firefox, Internet Explorer or Chrome

November 15th, 2013

Hi, for a few weeks now YouTube hasn’t worked in any of the three browsers I’ve mentioned in the topic title. I have absolutely no idea why it won’t work, here’s the message I receive when I try to access YouTube using Firefox:
Unable to connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.youtube.com.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I’ve looked through all my firewalls and anti-virus software and the website hasn’t been blocked, it just won’t load. Embedded videos just appear as a white box. I’d really appreciate it if somebody could help me as this is really starting to frustrate me now!
Answer #1
Wait, so you cant connect to youtube, or you connect and get a white box? Two separate issues.
Try clearing your cache and reinstalling flash player to solve the white box problem.
The firefox not connecting issue might be DNS related, try using OpenDNS or Google DNS.
Answer #2
have you updated your flash player to the latest version?
have you updated your graphics card driver to the latest version?
has your internet speed been capped, because you’ve gone over the limit?
are the web browsers the latest version?
are you trying to view something that is rated 18+ and you aren’t logged into youtube as someone that is over the age of 18?
do you use a router? in the case that you do, have you tried resetting it? (unplug it for 5 minutes or so then plug it back in)
have you tried resetting your modem? (the same way you do the router)
if you’ve tried all those, which are the simpliest fixes that could be hindering the chances of connecting to youtube. Then I would say the problem either lies with your ISP, in which case you would have to ring them, or
a more likely scenario is, your blocking the port that you need to view youtube on your router, or
there’s a blockage somewhere with your antivirus program
Maybe it would be wise to double check those things that you have already checked, just in case you’ve missed something.
Answer #3
I can’t connect to YouTube at all :/
Voryzen, I’ve tried everything you’ve mentioned and still no luck.
Answer #4
How long ago did this start?
What browser versions are you using?
What flash versions are you using?
Check your HOSTS file, see if there is anything in there besides localhost, 127.0.0.1. (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc)
I’m assuming all other sites work fine? Does Google and it’s subpages work? Maps, Video, etc.
Answer #5
yes, more info please.
Did you try smashedr’ suggestions?
Answer #6
If its the flash videos that aren’t working then google chrome should work since they generally have the latest version of flash. However you could try deleting all your browser history and then restarting your computer. (simple solution might help) If its the webpage that isn’t opening then I don’t know.
Answer #7
I've looked through all my firewalls and anti-virus software
What AV and Firewall are you using? It could be other things (such as flash) being blocked. Did you try disabling them completely (Real-time protection, Web protection, Firewall, Program Guard, HIPS, etc..) to rule out the possibility that they are not really interfering with watching YouTube videos?

Have to agree with this guy, kaspersky used to give me similair issues back when I used to use it. Try disabling it mate.

I’ve just disabled everything and I’m still having the same problem, this is really starting to annoy me now!

Anyone willing to help?
Answer #11
I’m out of ideas personally.
Maybe you should change browsers. Google Chrome is awesome
