X-mas upgrade for my pc.
October 8th, 2020
As mentioned in the title , I am planning a Christmas upgrade to my pc or I will buy a PS3 not sure yet ,but yea.
I was thinking of adding one more graphic card and my questions are : Does the graphic card has to be same ?
What will I actually benefit from adding one more , I am aware that it will help the performance of the computer but what exactly will I get ? Like increased FPS for example.
I know that my pc will benefit from this but at the same time it may be hurt from increased heat and is my CPU going to handle a second graphics card ? It is a 6 core 3,7Ghz.
If do upgrade, do I need to upgrade to more RAM maybe or anything else ?
Help appreciated ,thanks in advance. Operating System

I’m not a big expert on graphics cards (I’m not that much of a gamer ), but I can recommend you to buy a SSD. You’ll notice a huge speed up on some parts. Boot times will be drasticly shorter. My notebook is powered on (and usable) in roughly 45 seconds. This is with all kind of crap installed. You’re probraly good on the RAM, 8GB is more than enough for the average (and probraly yours). It only comes in handy for Virtual Machines, or operations on big files for example.
In your case I’d look at the SSD, Video Card (someone else can inform you on this ), and possibly a processor. But all depends on your budget.
I don’t think I will need an SSD my PC is already booting fast enough. But thanks for your opinion ,now anyone else ?
Before that. Tell me what kind of 7800 series card do you have? HD 7850-7870?
To be able to crossfire or sli you dont need the same company card. Just the same series card. For example: A 780 to a 780. You cannot sli a 780 with an 770.
It will increase heat from another card adding in. I had an AMD card before and it does have a lots of heat. I dont know much about AMD cpu so dont know if it will bottleneck your card or not. Ram is fine but might consider upgrading. What is your PSU? The more graphic card the more power your pc will need to draw.
I also assume you have an 7870 and if you want another one it would cost 200-240 buck. My suggestion is get an R9 280 for around 300-320 buck and sell your hd 78XX
An r9 280 is like an 7970 Ghz edition but slightly faster.
Now it will surly improve your FPS in game by A LOTS either upgrading to an new gpu or crossfire it. I suggest just buy the r9 280 since you dont know much about pc (assuming by those questions). Crossfire and sli is not just a 1 click and done for some cases. As for saying. You can do that route but it will not increase your game fps.
My PSU is 650W and graphics card is 7850.

Would this one be good ? It’s 2GB isnt that too much for my PSU ? So over all I would have 3GB of GPU ,I think a PSU upgrade might be needed for that.
Search on Newegg for an 7850. But remember yours is 1gb so if you get an 2gb edition you can only use 1gb of it not 2gb. 7850 has 2 edition 1gb and 2gb. Also does your power supply have extra PCIE connector? The new card will need it to get power.
Since you have the 7850. I strongly suggest you do a upgrade instead of an 2nd card since that card is not that powerful and its only has 1GB. Games these days and upcoming game will destroy an 1gb memory gpu card.
Also remember sli or crossfire DOES NOT add the memory together. By sli or crossfire it will split the work to those card. You will get more thing done faster since it work side by side but it will not combine together for greater memory.
7875 1gb (you currently have)
7875 2gb (you plan to buy)
Total = 1gb of usage memory. Sli and Crossfire will take the lowest config and make it default.
Yes I do have PCIE ,so if I get the 1GB will it combine and make it 2 ? Since they are almost at the same price the 2GB and 1GB will it be better to upgrade ? Will there be any compatibility issues if I buy 2nd one ?
This is the 1GB one http://www.ebuyer.com/434547-xfx-hd-7850-core-edition-1gb-gddr5-dual-dvi-hdmi-dual-displayport-fx-785a-znfc
Can’t get those from newegg not sure if they ship to UK.
And what about my PSU is it good for dual or for the upgrade ?

I already told you above. You can only have 1gb TOTAL. Even if your 2nd card is an 2gb or a 1gb. Your 650watt is fine for an dual 7850. But remember crossfire or sli will run only as fast as your lowest setting card.

Yea but I mean ,what if I exchanged the 1GB one to the 2GB ,so I will only have the 2GB edition plugged in .
So you will only have 1 card plug in right? If so you will only have 2gb since thats what the card has. If you have 2 2gb card it will still be 2 gb. But if you actually brought an extra 2gb edition to run alone. Might as well upgrade right Still suggest you buy a new up to date graphic card and sell your old one
Yea this this what im thinking now since you helped me, so what is the best card I can buy 2GB for the price of 115 pounds which is 190 US$
Do some research and you will know what to buy. AMD vs Nvidia is mostly what you see. I brought a top of the line gpu when I cant run game on at least high setting so I dont know which you should get x.x
With that kind of cash. You can buy one thats better than yours but wont last that long till you need an upgrade. I would suggest you bite in and wait till you get more cash and spend it on a very good gpu or top of the line one. Getting one at that price range might land an 2gb but by doing a quick search online with an 7850 2gb it will only land you medium setting with 30 fps average in crysis 3. Upcoming game will require more power so you should wait till you have enough to get a really decent one or top.
