Windows XP Keeps Restarting

August 7th, 2016

My desktop has 5 HDs, but a 650w PS (maybe a year old – good name brand). Got some malware tonight – after cleaning it PC rebooted….and rebooted and rebooted. As soon as Windows (XP Pro) begins to start, the PC reboots. I started unplugging HDs…..after all 4 extras were unplugged, it boots up fine. ?!
I’m suspecting the PS…..but will wipe out and reinstall WinXP if that could be the problem – although I never heard of this type of issue. I notice that when I plug in one of the HDs (after Windows is running), the PC wont recognize it….but if I reboot, it goes back into the continual loop. Any other ideas? btw….the 4 HDs are all storage – no OS.

Could Windows be corrupted in a way that would do this?

Could Windows be corrupted in a way that would do this?
I think that’s the actual reason.
And ya it’s possible.
When deleting viruses/malware there is always a chance that some system files/registry gets corrupted.
Try booting into safe mode, download a program that fixes your registry and/or get a windows xp cd get into repair mode and repair your windows files.
Answer #3
Doesn’t work in safe-mode (or any other mode) either – but this ONLY with additional HDs connected. Starts to run the files for safe-mode (or any other option) then reboots. I have no problem doing a LLF – just want to make sure that Windows could be FU’d that THAT is the problem.
And Windows “repair” option – is what its always been – utterly worthless.
Answer #4
It was a corrupted Windows file. A LLF and all is well.

My dear I what I can suggest you is Install a fresh copy and immediately after you perform fresh Install, Install some Anti-Virus as well… I recommend you use AVAST ANTIVIRUS… As it is most affordable because free and it also have a plus benefit that it don’t take CPU usage and works calmly…
There are windows files which are inter-related… When you will recover this file it will give you another error, then another and another.. So better option is to perform a format and re-install….
Answer #6
Do you use any anti-virus now?
I suggest Kaspersky PURE
