Windows Live Messenger Connection Problem

August 2nd, 2016

came back to college after being home for the weekend to discover my messenger signed out and refusing to sign back in.
It’s giving me the following Error Code: 80072745
It’s also telling me my firewall might be blocking it from connecting. I just use the normal windows firewall and Nod32 anti-virus and even with the two of these turned off it still won’t connect.
When I run the troubleshooter I get ticks beside everything so I can’t understand where the problem is…
I’m using WLM 9 and Vista Home Premium.
Any help would be much appreciated!

here is an article the helps to resolve that error:

Another thing probably of note, my mate was using the computer over the weekend and I think he installed a virus or spyware or something by accident. He clicked a dodgy link and some “Anti-spyware” program installed itself on my computer. I then installed Nod32 to remove that…
Maybe that changes things?

that might have. but do take a look at that article, it gives you a few dll files to register with windows and also 2 entries for the hosts file that may fix your problem.

One of the dll commands doesn’t work for me. These two go in fine:
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
Then this one throws up an error:
regsvr32 initpki.dll
The module "initpki.dll" failed to load.
Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binaryor dependant .DLL files.
The specified module could not be found.
.

And the last one regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
works fine as well.
Running these doesn’t fix the problem, and changing the host file simply gave me a host file error in the WLM troubleshooter…
Any more advice??
