Windows 8 crashing on my netbook

August 1st, 2016

I have a hp mini 210 netbook,
I installed windows 8 on it to run alongside 7 & xp..
It installed fine, but after a while wont boot up..
flashing blue screen or black screen of death with just the mouse visible.
Is this due to incompatible drivers.. or a bad crack??
Any help would be great,
Thanks

Download this software: BlueScreenView http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/bluescreenview_setup.exe
When your pc crahses, a .dmp file is created automatically. This BlueScreenView displays the minidump filename, the date/time of the crash, the basic crash information displayed in the blue screen (Bug Check Code and 4 parameters), and the details of the driver or module that possibly caused the crash (filename, product name, file description, and file version).
send me a screenshot of the error code, i suspect it has a driver causing it!!

Thanks .
I re-instelled windows 8, use the crack, turned OFF updates, and only installed my netbook touchpad driver.
It doesnt seem to be crashing now.
I may turn on updates again, and see if it happens.
If it does, I’ll try to get the info you requested.
thanks very much.
P.S
You seem a man of knowledge, and I hope you dont mind me taking this opportunity to ask.
Is there ANY way to get my hp mini 210 netbook to display 1024×768 on windows 8?
I’ve tried the registry display upscaling edit but it didnt work.
Maybe I need a different graphics driver… I’m using the official windows 7 driver at the moment.
Perhaps a 3 party driver may do the trick, but i need to find one thats compatible..
Google has bought me little success..
Any clue?
As it stands at the moment, I cant use metro.. Thanks

You may need to wait for your graphics card provider to update their drivers for Windows 8, but I can’t say I know whether or not they will do that.
Interesting issue. Also updates should be fine to run.
Perhaps talk to support from the graphics card company, and see if they will be releasing a windows 8 version.

Here’s the driver page link at HP:

Try the Windows 7 driver. Additionally, if you get the model of your graphics chip you should check at Intel’s site – I doubt HP will continue to keep current for very long. Again, you probably won’t find specific Windows 8 drivers, look for Windows 7 drivers instead (or failing that, even Vista).

I’ve seen a few people post the question in HP forum.
No hint of any updates or drivers being made though.
I am running the same driver as the link above, the windows 7 driver.
The only difference is, when I change the registry downscale value to ‘1’, it still wont display in 1024×768
This method works on win7, but not win 8
strange
It is stressed that i must find ALL downscaling entries in the registry and change them all..
but my search only finds one, and the ‘find next’ search just finds the same one again.
So im out of ideas.
Maybe there is another hidden registry entry that needs changing?
thanks
UPDATE:
I WASNT running the ‘same driver’!
I tried installing the window 7 driver before, but was told that windows 8 was running a newer version of the driver, so I didn’t need to install.
Same driver yes.. but a newer version…
But now ive downgraded the driver to the one from the hp website, and downscaling works !
great, I can now use metro on my netbook.
I may try turning on the windows 8 updates..
I may not bother installing anymore drivers though.. play it safe
everything seems to be working apart from the volume light and wifi light on my keyboard cant be turned off.
hope this thread is of use to anyone else wanting to get metro on their hp mini.
Thanks all, sorry for not being on the ball enough about the newer version of the driver.
