Windows 8.1 Won’t boot

August 30th, 2018

HI GUYS,
My Daughter Lenovo Flex 10 comes with Windows 8 STD Pre installed.
after a update the laptop did’t want to boot gives me the error on a blue screen :
The Boot Configureation for your PC is missing or contains errors.
File: \EFI\MICROSOFT\BOOT\BCD
Error code: 0xc000000f
i’ve tried to boot with Windows 8 USB UEFI bootable USB but it didn’t boot at all.
can you please put me on the right direction to fix this ?

Answer #1
Not sure..Either the usb is not bootable or you didn’t set the bios to boot from the usb..You can also use the boot menu..
Again..you need to look up the manual which key for the boot menu..
You should do a system restore..The laptop Manual should have which key combination to get to the restore option..

i’ve checked on the internet which combination is the laptop has to boot.
nothing really.
i’ve noticed the laptop support just UEFI not a legacy.
i’ve disabled boot secure. and enabled boot from usb.
when i click F12 its takes me to the boot menu i see only boot manager, after i click it windows tried to boot and comes back to the same error.
The USB is bootable tested on a different laptop and computer.
thank you

Do you have any necessary data in the laptop? If not, use the factory reset; there must be a tiny button on the upper right of the laptop which you should press (mash gently or keep pressed) on boot.

I have had a friend have a problem recently similar to this that was caused by a corrupt file after an update. You will want to try and disable the UEFI and go to legacy boot support to run from a USB and this will even help enable the F8 os boot options such as Last Known Good Configuration which you may want to use first, or even try safe mode and enable drivers one at a time.
The first time I encountered the issue I ended up only having to do a CMOS clear. The second time it was actually generating a UILogon failure. It’s easier to just wipe now days with all the free options and available space out there. I stress this to my users/clients always backup you have the technology freely available.
Note: With the client seeing the UILogon issue, the vendor actually required the F2 key be pressed before power on. You could imaging the headache I got when I loaded the OS each boot cycle.
Answer #5
can you boot a USB with a windows 8 install?
boot, repair, CMD and type; bootrec.exe /fixmbr
should get your PC booting again.
wait, is it a tablet, netbook or laptop?
Answer #6
Dear All,
i managed to fix the issue
i was trying to boot with 64bit USB,
the laptop support just UEFI 32bit.
had to twice the UEFI boot file to get it work
much appreciate your support.
it fixed now
Answer #7
What did you use to make the bootable USB ? Rufus ? Don’t use rufus for windows it imposes a completely artificial limitation (NTFS for system partitions) when the only way to get full compatibility between UFEI and legacy 64 bit computers is to format the system volume as fat32 after initialising it as an MBR disk.
Kind of defeats the point in using it imo.

Thank you
i created the UEFI using the Windows Command ” Disk Part”.
however the issue wasnt the on the tool but on the CPU wasn’t supportng 64 bit UEFI boot.
much appreciated your support
